News from CCE School Counselor
The book "Unselfie: Why Empathic Kids Succeed in Our All-About-Me World" by Michele Borba is a great book for parents, filled with ideas you can use at home to increase your child's Empathy Advantage. "Unselfie introduces a revolutionary but simple idea that will transform our kids' lives: that empathy -- rather than being a nice 'add on' to our kids' development -- is in fact integral to their current and future success, happiness, and well-being." The author sites research to support this fact, showing overwhelmingly that increased empathy is directly connected to overall social and academic wellbeing of students. I will be using tips from the book in my lessons with CCE students throughout the year!

ThunderRidge Honors Choir
This year the ThunderRidge Honors Choir was selected to perform at CMEA (Colorado Music Educators Association) at the Broadmoor on January 25th. CMEA is the organization that runs all of the All-State festivals and is a premier organization for Music Educators across the country (each state has its own "MEA"). Being selected to showcase at this event is the highest honor that a choir in Colorado can achieve, and the choir has been working tirelessly to assure that we perform up to this honor.
To help us in the final stages, TRHS Honors Choir is going to host a Preview Concert so that all families, friends, community members, and respected colleagues get to enjoy this performance without needing to drive to the Broadmoor or spend the $65 per ticket to enjoy the show (I have a limited amount of comp tickets if you would rather see the real thing also). This will also help us get the jitters out and will allow last minute fine tuning.
The Preview Concert will be held in TR's Commons on January 14th at 7:30pm and will last approximately 30-40mins. Please join us for a great night of music and community!
