Fund the Suns is the cornerstone for all fundraising at Double Peak School. The fund generates revenue that supports unique learning opportunities in innovation, art, Leader in Me, and additional initiatives that create motivation and passion for academic success. Fund the Suns is an annual fundraising activity, critical to the school’s enrichment programs and community-building activities, ensuring the extra margin of excellence not afforded by state funding.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students need to complete their homework bingo sheet and math problem on the back. Please have your child return their completed homework in their orange folder by next Friday 10/25. Link to this week's homework is above!
- Innovation: We will finish our last week of Innovation Block 1. Students will go to the Makerspace to learn about the expectations and procedures they will need to follow during their design challenges throughout the rest of the year.
- Language Arts -Unit 3: Animal Adaptations. Our essential question will be, How do Living Things Adapt to Change? This week we will read two texts focusing on different animal adaptations, including camouflage. The skills we will be focusing on with these texts include identifying key details and main idea, using graphic features to help us better understand a text and understanding the text structure: compare and contrast. (Unit 3 Parent Letter)
- Math -Unit 2 concepts of multiplication and division. We will introduce the concept of division through various hands on activities and story problems. We will continue to practice multiplication strategies and how we can apply them to word problems involving multiplication.(Unit 2 Parent Letter)
- Writing -Students will be writing an opinion piece on which animal adaptation they think is most useful and why. Students will support their opinion with at least two reasons.
- Spelling- The spelling pattern for this week will be r-controlled vowels (-ar and -or). Some of the words students will be practicing with include: sharks, sharp, carnivores, born, forward, form, forest and arctic.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in writing. Our vocab words for the unit include determines, detect, environment, excess, exterior, moist, shed, survive, formulate and durable.
- 7 Habits - Habit of the Month: Habit 1-Be Proactive. In our classroom we focus on ways that students can be responsible and take ownership of their actions.
Ways to Support Your Child at Home!
- Practice Multiplication Facts!
- Ideas for games:
- Multiplication War-flip over two cards and whoever can multiply the two numbers the fastest keeps the cards.
- Roll two dice and multiply the numbers together. Add up all of your products and the first person to 200 wins!
