Happy New Year Schlegel Families!
We have entered a New Year filled with hope along with a mix of emotions. Hope for our health, the ongoing efforts to provide equity for all, honoring and respecting diversity, and our Nation. Our mindset as we transition is crucial for the health and well-being of our students, your child(ren). As you navigate through your own thoughts and ideas, you might be surprised by your child(ren)'s thoughts and questions. Take time to listen to what they are saying, reassure them, and keep answers simple. We must keep in mind the importance of child development in order to provide them a safe and caring foundation.
Below is a post from The Children's Institute addressing how we can support our children,
08 JANUARY 2021 |
Our children are watching; other ways we as adults can do better
Like many, we watched Wednesday’s event at the United States Capitol knowing our children were also watching, listening, and learning. In this darkness, we want to share ways we as adults can do better by demonstrating to children and youth that …
… We know how to disagree with others in a way that promotes dialogue and curiosity rather than violence and anger.
… We can accept defeat gracefully and find other positive ways to bring our message and goals to bear on the world.
… We can manage and harness our anger and frustration, from wherever it may stem, through advocacy, writing, and policy not vandalism and brute force.
… Racism and injustice must end before our country can be whole.
… There is more light than darkness, but we must light the candle.
Thankfully, the Schlegel community, models appropriate social and emotional behaviors with the goal of raising healthy children. If at any time you would like to talk with a Schlegel staff member to help you and your family, please call the Main Office. Our partnership with you is crucial for your child's healthy development.
Peace to you and your family,

Elementary Specials and Upcoming Swaps
TOPIC: Elementary Specials & Upcoming Swap
Elementary Art & General Music teachers have been diligently working with Grades K-5 over Google Meet this year. I have personally sat in on a few sessions to enjoy seeing the faces of our Fine Arts students participating in activities we would usually have in our classrooms. We have been doing our best to bring some authentic music and art experiences to their 'at home' part of the day. All students have now had one Art and one Music rotation thus far.
Beginning on Monday, January 4th, students will be switching their Fine Arts offering back to the first rotation of grade levels. These will be ALL NEW learning experiences for our students.
K-2 will visit again with their ART teacher online during live Google Meet sessions.
3-5 will visit again with their MUSIC teacher online during live Google Meet sessions.
Codes were shared with grade level classroom teachers to access the Art or Music pages through SeeSaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-5). The links to the live sessions will be available on those platforms. The portals used for the first round of learning should still work to allow students into class. If your child needs the Art or Music code, please coordinate with your classroom teacher.
If your child has not been able to participate up to this point, please take this change opportunity as a fresh start at the beginning. We would love to have all our One Webster artists and musicians online with us.
Again, on Monday, January 4th, Art and Music switch grades.
K-2 will be in ART.
3-5 will be in MUSIC.
Thank you for your support,
Michael Roller
