Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
PARCC testing has now concluded and went rather smoothly. As you know, the schedule was adjusted Monday through Wednesday of this week to accommodate this assessment. Students adapted well, seemed to give a solid effort, and rather enjoyed their mid-day break out on the track. Maybe it brought back positive memories of elementary recess, but they came into those afternoon sessions refreshed!
Junior High students celebrated their latest Herd Hotshots event this week. Students who maintained good grades in each of their classes, were consistently present and who made good behavioral choices were treated to a menu of fun options this month. Hotshots were able to chose from visiting a gaming room, participating in a wiffle ball tournament, playing board games, relaxing in a quiet space, competing in Kahoot, chatting it up with their friends, or enjoying Herd Huddle activities. Some pictures from the various activities can be see below. Kudos to our Junior High teachers who plan, coordinate, and implement all of these activities with aplomb; they rock!
High school AVID elective classes were divided into small groups and given the opportunity to hear stories of resilience from adult staff and community members. These powerful testimonials were heartfelt detailing the impediments these adults faced along their life journey and how they persevered to overcome them. To be sure, these incredible stories of grit truly resonated with our AVID students. Thank you to Mrs. Lario for organizing the conversations and to all staff members who were brave enough to share their stories!
This exercise reminded me of a book I am currently reading - The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph, by Ryan Holiday - that speaks to roadblocks or SNAGs, as our AVID students call them, being the most important catalysts for learning. I highly recommend it!
Students taking AP tests and their teachers posed for a photo op today as they get ready for those exams beginning next week. Good luck to all participants!
Some seniors were invited to the county Athletic Awards Banquet on Thursday night. Our own Grant Shivers was the keynote speaker! Congrats to the four who won awards! Their picture is our photo of the week!
Finally, our top five students in the senior class and their parents will be honored this Monday evening with a dinner at Adelphia's. This county-wide event brings together top students from around our area to celebrate their hard won accomplishments.
That is it for my update. Enjoy the nice weather over the weekend!
Keep Love Present,
Dr. Vivadelli

Attention 8th grade Parents:
8th grade promotion materials were sent home with students today. Each student signed off on receipt of their allotment of three tickets for the ceremony. We understand that only having three tickets is an inconvenience for some families, but it is the only equitable way to guarantee enough space for the close family of all students. In addition to the tickets, students received a letter with logistical details and a permission slip. Please contact the Junior High office for any inquiries other than needing additional tickets; there are no more to give out!
