April 12, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Estimadas familias de Woodcrest,
It’s finally nice outside! I’ve heard so much laughter and seen so much joy coming from the playground area this week. Our kids are so happy to be outside in the sun and warmth.
We have lots of fun things happening this week. Field trips are continuing to happen and we will have a special performance from our very own Spring Lake Park High School theater students this Friday at Woodcrest. The Spring Lake Park High School theater group will perform a preview of the play Matilda for our students. It will just be a preview, so be sure to check out the full play!
As the weather gets nicer, it can get harder to concentrate, and we are in a long stretch without a lot of breaks. Attendance is so important and especially in this critical spring trimester. Please continue to help ensure your child is at school and ready to learn each day. Let’s finish the year strong!
Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Recycling in Action!
Last week, students in third grade created covers for some of their chairs inspired by the bright colors of the Colombian flag. Students used the material left from the covers to make small pencil bags by measuring the fabric and calculating the perimeter and area of their pieces. They also created toys with recycled plastic bags, such as parachutes, pom-poms, bracelets, necklaces, flowers, and much more.
Students not only had a chance to connect social studies, math, science, and literacy to this activity, they also learned the importance of sharing, recycling and being creative!

We are accepting nominations for next year's PTO board until our next meeting on May 8. Board members usually attend 1-2 prep meetings a month beside the general PTO meeting and also plan the FUN RUN each fall. Current board positions include President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Social Media Coordinator, and Volunteer Coordinator. Additional positions may be added and all positions may be co-lead. If you have interest in the board, want more details about a certain position, or have an idea for a new position, please reach out to a current board member or email us!
Also at our last meeting we added a new board position of Equity/Inclusion Coordinator.
