What is an essential Standard?
“systematic and balanced approach to distinguish the standards essential for student success from the ones that are ‘nice to know.”
- They do not represent all the we teach
- They represent the MINIMUM a student must learn to reach high levels of learning
Questions to help determine Essentials:
1.Endurance: are students expected to retain these skills so future skills can be built upon them?
2.Leverage: is this skill/knowledge applicable to many academic disciplines

University of North Texas (UNT) Bachelor’s in Spanish Literature
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Maria Marrero (Latin-American- Literature teacher).She was my favorite teacher because she had a great passion for teaching and her lessons were fascinating.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Journalism, for sure!.

Tom Howls out to Ms. Sawhney and Ms. Diaz for doing a super job in PreK, spent time this week in PreK room and saw some terrific hands on learning activities and listening to students describe attributes of shapes and their colors in the room.
Tom Howls out to Ms. Branch and Ms. DelValle for the insect hunting activity out on the playground. Students were following the directions on the maps to find the hidden insects out on the playground.
