Notes From the Office
CGSF Popcorn Days: We are gearing up for another successful fundraising year with Popcorn Fri-yays. Popcorn is $2.00, and we aim to have popcorn delivered to classrooms before 10:30 am on Friday. Last year popcorn days provided approximately $7 000 to our Fundraising Association. As our student population continues to grow, we know the support is needed more now than ever. We are working with our Hot Lunch ordering platform to hopefully have popcorn orders streamlined through that, for families who wish to do so. If you have any questions: please email Barb (cgsfundraising@gmail.com).
Hot Lunches: Ordering will be open from the 1st to the 20th of each month to order for the following month. Please note that there is no hot lunch ordering for ECDP or Kindergarten students. To open your 2023/24 hot lunch account (the system does not retain information from the previous year), follow the detailed instructions provided in the attached graphic (Digital Take Home Folder). When you log in, you may notice a new button to volunteer for hot lunch. Please consider volunteering to help sort and organize hot lunches from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. If you have any questions you can contact our hot lunch team at: cgshotlunch@outlook.com.
CG Gear: Our online store is back up and running for the year. Check out: https://christinagordon.entripyshops.com/ to order school clothing. There is a wide variety of styles, logos, and colours to choose from!
Classroom Celebration: Our classroom will be having a small celebration for the last day of school before the Winter Break on Thursday, December 21st. Students are welcome to wear pyjamas, bring stuffed animals, blankets, etc. Together we will be reading and watching, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!", giving students the opportunity to compare and contrast two different media versions of the same story. We will also be having a Grinch Taste Test. Students and families who wish to contribute a green item can sign up on the provided Google Doc (Digital Take Home Folder) or send me a message/email about which green fruit or vegetable you will be providing. We appreciate items being pre cut or sliced when possible.
Christmas Spirit Week: As in the past, students and staff are invited to participate in our upcoming Christmas Spirit Week from December 18th-21st. Each day will have a theme that students can participate in if they choose to do so. This year the themes are:
- Monday, December 18th - Red/Green Day
- Tuesday, December 19th - Winter Hat Day
- Wednesday, December 20th - Winter Sweater Day
- Thursday, December 21st - Pyjama Day
Christina Gordon school and classrooms will also be collecting Food Bank Donations from December 12-19th. Donations can be made to the classroom teacher. As with any Spirit Day, Week, or other initiative, students encouraged to but not obligated to participate in any of the above. Students will still be included in any event or activities that take place on these days regardless of dress, donations collected, etc.
Christmas Concert Recordings: Missed seeing your student, family member, or friend perform at their Christmas Concert? The links are still available on our Facebook and YouTube pages: https://www.youtube.com/@ceegeeteevee510/streams.
Grade 4 Vista Ridge Field Trip: As part of the Physical Education curriculum, students in Grs. 4-6 will be participating in a skiing or snowboarding day at Vista Ridge Ski Hill. Grade 4 students from our classroom will be participating on January 24th. Please see the attached permission form for information on student packages, lesson requirements, travel arrangements, and payment information (Digital Take Home Folder). Physical copies of the permission forms will go home in the Take Home Folders this week. Please return these forms as quickly as possible so that travel arrangements (ie. booking the correct number of busses) can be made. We are encouraging all families to do their best to finalize all payments through Parent Portal by Wednesday, December 20th. The school is unable to accept cash or cheques as payment for field trips. To pay, please visit Parent Portal and select the appropriate package for your child. Should you have any technical issues using Parent Portal, please contact the main office of the school. No student will be excluded from this trip due to an inability to make these payments. If your student or family is unable to make such a payment at this time, please do not hesitate to let me know. Alternative arrangements will be made by the school so that all students who wish to attend are able to do so.
CG News: Attached is the December issue of the CG News Newsletter (Digital Take Home Folder). Check it out to see more of the wonderful things taking place at Christina Gordon Public School!
Fundraising Association Casino: Our CG Fundraising Association is currently looking for volunteers for their upcoming casino from January 13-14th. This is the single BIGGEST contributer to funds which go directly to the students and the school. Please check out the Sign Up Genius schedule: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080B44AEAB2CABFC1-45569984-casino?fbclid=IwAR3qqKmqQ7PgN-lYDJjE2DRWVmuQany5Jjo0hwHsBVbIl52_5PPd_hu06ZY#/.
Christina Gordon Catchment Change: Attached is a letter that has already been shared with some of our families, announcing a slight change in our boundaries for the 2024-25 school year. It will affect families in the Walnut, Fireweed, and the Trillium areas which will be rezoned to Dave McNeilly School. However, please understand that families will NOT be required to move from Christina Gordon Public School if they wish to remain here. These changes will be for registrants going forward.
