News from Lions Park School
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
This last week has been full of learning and fun. We send many thanks to the PTO for a wonderful assembly today. The students all appeared to thoroughly enjoy Tim Hannig and The PRO Kids Show. Mrs. Koehlinger led the students in a festive sing along this afternoon. Both assemblies were a wonderful way to close out 2019 together at Lions Park School.
In District 57, we take the prevention of bullying very seriously. All K-8 students participate in weekly classroom meetings/advisory meetings to build classroom community and provide strategies for students on how to prevent/handle potential bullying situations. This is done, in part, using the Olweus Bully Prevention Program. This curriculum offers an opportunity for students to share their feelings and opinions, to suggest solutions, and to learn to follow the rules and handle bullying situations appropriately. It also builds class community and cohesiveness and recognizes achievements and successes of the class as a whole.
We encourage any student or parent who is aware of a potential bullying situation to report the issue immediately to a staff member. This report will initiate an investigation. Whether or not the issue is found to be bullying, any behavior that does not follow school expectations will be addressed. We want all students to feel safe and comfortable during their time at school, and we are committed to removing barriers that are preventing this for individual students or groups of students. For more resources on this topic, please visit this link.
Winter break can be a good time to replenish school supplies that are damaged or running low. As part of this refresh, please ask your child about his or her headphones/earbuds. Some students still have not brought these and other students' headphones have stopped working. If you have questions about what might be needed, please reach out to your child's teacher.
We wish you and your families joyous holiday celebrations, an enjoyable and safe break from school, and a very happy new year. We look forward to welcoming your children back to school on January 6, 2020!
