Strep Throat Alert
We had our first confirmed case of strep throat this week (lower school). Please be on the lookout for the following symptoms - which may be mild to severe:
Complaints of sore throat - it may hurt to swallow and there may be white patches
Tender glands in the neck
Fever - good indicator, but not always present - may have chills
General ill feeling - loss of appetite, abnormal taste, headache, or nausea
Your doctor can perform a rapid strep throat test, however if the result is negative and your doctor still suspects strep throat, then a swab test will be done. Results may take 1-2 days to come back. Doctors treat strep throat with antibiotics. Antibiotics should be taken as prescribed by your doctor, even if symptoms are gone after only a few days.
Untreated, strep can lead to serious complications such as rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, and peritonsillar abscess. Most people with strep are contagious until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours. BJAMS' policy is that if you or your student test positive for strep throat, you may not come to school until you or your student have been on an antibiotic for at least 24 hours.
The information above was taken from the CDC website. Please consult your family doctor with any questions or concerns you may have regarding strep throat.

Annual Appeal
If it hasn't landed in your mailbox already, you will soon be receiving the Annual Fund appeal in the mail. We hope that you enjoy reading the appeal and that you see what a glorious community we have built and how we continue to grow. The Annual Fund is vital for our nonprofit organization because it's the body of funding that helps our school open its doors everyday. The money raised helps to pay our teachers' salaries and covers some of our operating costs such as educational supplies and heating fuel. Put simply, it provides direct support to our day-to-day functions.
This year, we will have two matching programs. One program will run the duration of the fund from October 1 - June 29. The other matching program takes place on the global day of giving, known as Giving Tuesday, on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. We will be offering many great incentives and giveaways this day, so stay tuned and watch Friday Notes!
We hope that you recognize the importance of this fund. Thank you in advance for your consideration because every donation is a "blessing in disguise" for our school, just as each and every student is blessing to our community.
If you would like more information or want to learn more about the different ways you can donate, please email Michelle Tomlinson at mtomlinson@bjams.org.
There's an app for that!
Exciting news! Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt. This means that it’s even easier for the families and friends of BJAMS, both near and far, to help us earn extra money for our school.
We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire. Better yet, you can “double dip” during the packaging transition! You can clip traditional Box Tops AND scan your store receipt containing participating products. The official informational flyer is below.
Please drop off clipped Box Tops by Oct. 24 so we have time to submit them before this year’s first deadline. The collection bin is just inside the school doors on the left.
If you have questions about the Box Tops for Education program or the new process, please reach out to Janelle Germaine at mjgermaine2011@gmail.com.

Unbound After School Program
People's Academy is extending their Unbound After School program to Bishop Marshall School students in grades 5-8 and who reside in Morrisville/Morristown.
Currently there is availability in a majority of the clubs we offer throughout the week. There are a few clubs that are at max capacity: Ceramics, Middle Level Movie Mania, Origami and Kid Cuisine. All clubs start at 3:00 pm and end at 4:30 pm with the exception of Open Gym on Fridays, which ends at 5:00 pm.
Club fees are due with registration. These fees are determined based on instruction, materials and are a one time payment for the full semester to help support the program as a whole. Unbound uses a sliding scale to determine individual cost. If families qualify for free or reduced lunch they receive free or reduced tuition. The registration form can be found below.
Questions and/or completed registration forms can be emailed to Chad Herman at chad.herman@lsuu.org
