Eastlake Middle School 9.10.18
Team:
Thank you for some awesome classroom visits this past week. I enjoyed watching you shine with the students. We are two weeks from the fall break! Please make sure that you check in with students who might require extra support. You can refer them to the counselor for a possible SST or refer them to tutoring. On Wednesdays and Thursday, there are tutors from the high school helping out in the library after school from 3:20 to 4:20. They are awesome. Let's get to the week at a glance...
A. FAC and Carne with Cooke. Talk with your department representatives with any concerns that need to be discussed with teacher leadership. FAC meets this Tuesday. I will be meeting with the PTSO and parents this Tuesday night at Lolita's at 871 Showroom Place. It's also a fundraiser for the school. Please pass by between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. PTSO will have a flyer for you to redeem funds for the school. Feed the family and support the PTSO!
B. Stu Hedley -- Pearl Harbor Survivor. He is amazing. He will be here on Monday and Tuesday. Pass by on your prep at 9:25, 11:30 or 2:30 on both days.
C. Student Senate. Make sure you nominate a student from your TSP to attend Student Senate this Tuesday in the library during TSP. We will provide pizza. Please make sure they bring student concerns to the meeting.
D. Social Luncheon. We are planning a social luncheon before the fall break. We are still trying to nail down details on the food selection. Look out for the invitation this week.
E. ELM's 8th Annual Luau. Please Join us this Friday for our annual Luau from 4-7 in the Pavilion area! There will be plenty of food vendors from the community, clubs will be selling goodies, a number of students will be performing, and we will have a professional Polynesian performance to round out the evening. It is the perfect event for the Triton Family!
Hope to see you at the Luau!

Triton Trait of the Month (Growth Mindset)
For the month of September, we will be focusing on Growth Mindset. Don't worry, Kindness Mondays will continue all year long (If you have a kindness challenge, be sure to forward it to Mrs. Rose and the TNT crew).
Students with a growth mindset tend to see struggle as a natural part of getting better at something. When they encounter something they can’t yet do, they increase their effort, try new strategies, and end up learning more. Research shows that a growth mindset predicts increased academic achievement and can help narrow achievement gaps.Though students with growth mindset view challenge as an important part of learning, it doesn’t mean that students “just need to put their heads down and work harder.” Instead, students with a growth mindset see many ways to grow their abilities. They can recognize when they need help, and seek out new strategies.
Consider viewing the following 5 minute YouTube video that your child will be watching.
