Break it Down! In this session, teachers will spend time deconstructing TEKS. TEKS deconstruction is the window to understanding student learning outcomes and making instructional decisions to achieve those outcomes. This session will be facilitated by skilled Instructional Coaches. Designed to be highly interactive, this session provides an important foundation to outstanding student achievement.


Impactful Technology Integration - Integrating technology into instruction and student learning can be a powerful shift in a teacher’s pedagogy! Lead by two outstanding SAISD teachers, this session will provide insight into why and how to integrate technology into your classroom. Annmarie Williams, first grade teacher at Bonham, and Sherry Hall, 5th grade teacher at Alta Loma, will share some of their best strategies, ideas, and success stories in using technology to boost student engagement, enhance student learning, and differentiate instruction!


Guided Reading for All - Guided reading is widely accepted as an effective, strong, research-based instructional strategy. Kyla Prusak will provide an effective overview of guided reading, some keys to success, and how to effectively use specific types of data to guide planning and instruction. Mrs. Prusak’s experience as a former teacher, assistant principal, and curriculum coordinator provide her with a wealth of information and ideas. Her session will provide valuable information and resources to help teachers, regardless of experience level, enhance their guided reading instruction.


Each session will be 1.5 hours long. Details about the rotation schedule will be sent to participants by May 27th.

Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum and Reading Like a Writer

Reading and Writing Instructional Strategies for Today’s Students!


In this fun, inspirational, and practical training, award-winning high school ELA teacher Melanie Mayer shares practical strategies and activities teachers in all content areas can use now to engage today's learners and elevate their performance for and beyond state assessment tests. Teachers will model active reading strategies, open-ended response structure, and style analysis activities, while laughing a lot and remembering just how great it is to be a teacher. BIG results for your students, guaranteed! Attendees at this session receive materials packet and copy of presenter’s newest book!


In addition to teaching High School English at Port Aransas ISD, Melanie Mayer is a regular presenter at various Education Service Centers and part of ESC XIII’s Distinguished Speaker STAAR Series; and has recently presented for NCTE, CEL, TCTELA, HSTW, TASB, ASCD, the College Board, and many, many school districts. Her articles have appeared in English Journal, English Leadership Quarterly, and English in Texas; and she is the author of two books: Two Roads Diverged and I Took Both: Meaningful Writing Instruction in an Age of Testing (July 2010) and Miles to Go: What I Learned While I Was Teaching (April 2014).
