Message from the Principals
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is with great pleasure I share with you "my" excitement that Ms. Rachel Rydzewski will be the first principal of Muskego Lakes Middle School! She is an educator who is mission driven, puts students at the core of every conversation, and believes in the collective work of all to make sure students are known and supported! I know she will do a marvelous job. She is currently working with District Administrators to determine the Associate Principal to take on her position. Please watch for more information over the next few weeks.
Today your student will be bringing home their 3rd quarter report card. We know it's the last day before spring break, please be sure your student takes time to share this information with you. The fourth quarter will certainly go fast as the last student day is Thursday, May 31st, 8:05 am-12:00 pm.
Also, I want to alert you to the fact the PTO's 3rd Annual Color Run will be in May. The envelopes went home for students to begin getting donations. After they raise $30 they will receive a t-shirt to participate in the Color Run. For each additional $30 raised, they can invite someone else to participate and receive a t-shirt too. For example, if a student raises $120 they and 3 other family or friends can receive a t-shirt and run in the race. Please support the PTO as they raise money for many school sponsored events!
Finally, don't forget, Muskego's Summer Learning Academy enrollment is open now and closes on Friday, March 30. If you didn't register your child, please consider the many options that will occur during the month of July.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dawn Zandt, Principal, and Ms. Rachel Rydzewski, Associate Principal

Behavior Data and Support
As a school we have seen a recent improvement in student behavior, which we are so proud of. The month of February showed a decrease of 15% in office discipline referrals when compared to the month of January. Currently, 89% of our students have not received a single office referral all year! Also, all grade levels were able to earn their Quarter 3 Incentive day by earning 1,600 red tickets which recognize students for being respectful, responsible community members. 5th graders were the school leaders, receiving over 2,000 red tickets!
While we have been seeing overall improvement, we are finding a few areas that we need to continue to make growth. Inappropriate language is an area that is showing an area of weakness when compared to last year. One way you can support your child at home is to have conversations with your child about the importance of maintaining a respectful, professional environment. Explain to them the importance of following directions that are given to them by people in positions of authorities and the repercussions that could happen if they don’t. Also engage students in conversation regarding the importance of appropriate language while out in public. Many students don’t realize the impression they leave on others solely by their choice of vocabulary. Furthermore, modeling and expecting school-appropriate language at home is an ideal way to support both your child and our partnership with you here at school. In addition, we want all students to be positive role models for one another and to speak politely to peers, staff and community members.
Promoting a Respectful, Respectful Community
Mr. Bergum, Mr. Leiteritz and the PBIS committee have been planning and coordinating awesome videos about character development of our 3 Core Pillars; Respect, Responsibility and Community. Each month in homeroom, students learn about a character trait and watch a video from members of the Muskego Community and beyond! The videos are a great way for students to see and hear how to make an impact in school, at home and in the community. This video is centered around Positive Modeling and was created by Steve "Sparky" Fifer from the "Big Show" on 105.7 The Fan.
