A Note from Mrs. Allen, Burchett Counselor
S.E.L. At Home
Hello Parents/Guardians,
Here is a SEL activity that you can do with your scholar that is easy to do and it will provide you with an opportunity to learn more about your scholar.
Emotions Check-In
It’s important for parents to be aware of how their children feel each day, as it will often reflect in the quality of their schoolwork. Have your children start each day with a drawing of a face that shows the emotion they are experiencing in that moment. An artist pad and colored pencils or crayons are ideal for this exercise.
If your kids are able, have them name and write the emotion below the drawing. Then, as the day goes on you can revisit that picture and talk about how easily emotions can change. At this time, have them draw another picture of their current emotions. You may find that this new drawing shows a different emotion than the earlier one. However, that’s not always the case. This is a great time to talk to your children about strategies to change their emotions — especially if the emotions are causing negative feelings.
Below is an example of what your child’s drawing might look like:

Big Kahuna Fundraiser...a Note from PTO
We want to thank all of those that are participating in our fundraiser with Big Kahuna....it has been a huge hit!!
Don't forget orders are due this Friday, October 8th!
Starting Monday, October 4th; we will no longer pass out the hedgehog characters each day. We will wait for the final list showing students that sold items to ensure there are enough to pass out. I know the kids (and parents ) have been working hard to reach the goal for the party bus and we are so excited for it!!
Thank you again for your support and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Sarah Welsh, PTO President
PLEASE REQUEST A CHROMEBOOK HERE!

SPRING ISD GENERAL INFORMATION
Don’t miss your chance to take the PSAT
For Spring ISD 8th- 11th-grade students, it’s the time of year to think about signing up to take the Preliminary SAT, or PSAT, test (also referred to as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, or NMSQT).
The PSAT/NMSQT for 10th- and 11th-Grade Spring ISD students is on Oct. 13 this year, while students in Grade 8 and 9 will have the opportunity to take the test on different days designated for their campus between Oct. 11 - 15.
The PSAT is a great opportunity for rising high schoolers and high school underclassmen to experience the rigors and challenges of studying for and taking standardized college admissions tests. The PSAT is very similar in format to the SAT and makes a great practice test before taking the actual SAT.
Not only is the PSAT a great way to help get ready for later college admissions testing on the SAT or even the ACT, but the PSAT is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which has recognized over 3.3 million students and provided scholarships worth more than $1.8 billion since 1955.
Spring ISD Locations Offering Free COVID-19 Testing and Vaccinations
Spring ISD is partnering with Houston Medical ER and Inspire Health to offer free COVID-19 testing and vaccine sites to the district’s students, staff and community.
Inspire Health mobile testing units will be at the following campuses Monday-Friday (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and Saturdays (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
Planet Ford Stadium (23802 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, 77373)
Spring ISD Family Community Engagement Center (17125 Ella Blvd., Houston, 77090)
To expedite testing, students and staff members may pre-register beforehand here, but pre-registration is not required. Inspire Health plans to expand location options in the near future.
Additionally, Houston Medical ER (2306 Rayford Road, Spring, TX 77386) also is providing free vaccines and testing, Monday through Friday (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
