Math At Home!
Math Strategy to try @ Home:
Multiplication War!
With this fun card game, your child will master his/her multiplication facts in no time! Shuffle a deck of cards and deal them face down, giving each player an equal number. Assign the picture cards (Jack, Queen, King) values of 11-13 and the aces a value of 1. Each player turns two cards face up, reads the number sentence and says the answer. For example, if your child draws a 7 and an 8, they say 7×8=56. If you draw a 6 and a 4, you say 6×4=24. Because your child’s product is larger, they win the four cards and put them at the bottom of their pile. Continue the game until one player runs out of cards.

Have you completed the Census?
The census is a population count of everyone living in the United States. Information is used to determine congressional representation and allocate nearly $700 billion in federal funding for vital community services like hospitals, roads, Medicare/Medicaid and school programs. Completing your census information ensures Virginia Beach receives its fair share for Head Start programs for preschoolers, Title I grants for education, school lunch programs and more. The Census Bureau is also bound by law (Title 13 of the U.S. Code) to keep information confidential. Under this law, the Census Bureau cannot release any identifiable information about individuals or businesses⎯even to law enforcement agencies. All information is kept anonymous. Look for instructions to be mailed to households on how to complete and submit information. Learn more about the U.S. Census by visiting 2020census.gov.
