What is digital citizenship?
Digital citizenship is defined as the act of being responsible and safe users of all forms of technology. Some of these forms of technology include, but are not limited to, the internet, the computer, a tablet, and a cell phone. Digital citizenship is separated into nine "elements" as defined in Figure 2 and Video 1. These nine elements discuss proper online behaviors, safety precautions, ways to physically handle and treat technology, and so much more. Teaching digital citizenship is essential in the classroom as it prepares students what is expected of them in the digital age they live in.
