ConVal High School Happenings - May 20, 2022
Message From Principal McKillop
It has been an exciting week on campus. Please be sure to read the contents below!
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, today during TASC there were mental wellness stations in different locations for our students. Stations included rock paining in the link, making stress balls in the cafeteria, grabbing a cool treat in the cafeteria, a guided nature walk outside, basketball in the gym, yard games outside the gym, sidewalk chalk by the main entrance, playing with clay in room 412, and coloring books and quiet activities in the library. Thanks to our School Counseling Department for organizing these TASC activities. I would also like to extend gratitude to our parent volunteers for the cool treats that were provided and for the assistance with some of the stations.
There are many upcoming seniors games that will take place this afternoon, weekend, and next week. If you would like to assist with concessions, please see the embedded link below to volunteer.
This weekend I look forward to attending The Children and the Arts Festival on Saturday and the 5K run/walk for suicide prevention awareness that will start on our campus at 9:00am on Sunday.
Please also see the upcoming important dates that include a job fair on campus next week and the Pops concert you won't want to miss!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Best,
Heather

Mental Health Break
Students were able to enjoy the beautiful weather Friday during TASC while connecting with their peers and ConVal faculty and take advantage of mental health stations. Students enjoyed outside activities like chalk drawing and can jam while listening to the ConVal Band’s drum line practice for the Children and the Arts parade tomorrow. Inside, students created stress balls, painted rocks for display outside the school, or worked with clay. All of the activities were a reminder to our school community that as our end-of-year activities amp up, it’s important to take a breath and leave room for fun. Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this event happen!

New Hampshire High School Short Film Festival
Three Students will be representing ConVal at the New Hampshire High School Short Film Festival:
1. Caitlyn Witt — Second Chance Ranch (A look behind the scenes of a non profit dog rescue in our own backyard)
2. Jennifer Hopkins — Storrs Hill (How a Norwegian immigrant’s small NH ski hill helped to shape future olympians)
3. Fletcher Maggs — Everest to End Duchenne (The story of four trekkers who hike to the Mount Everest base camp on behalf of children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy)
Launched in 2008 and presented by the New Hampshire Film Bureau, the annual New Hampshire High School Short Film Festival has become one of the marquee film festivals in the state, fostering interest in filmmaking, supporting media arts education, and rewarding future members of the industry for their craft.
The festival screens a two-hour program of selected films. Films submitted for consideration are previewed and scored by a festival selection committee. Originality, cinematic storytelling, and technical execution are the primary basis of the scoring.
All films, regardless of type or genre, are judged on the filmmaker’s ability to effectively captivate an audience through cinematic expression.
Great East Music Festival
The ConVal Music Department went to the Great East Music Festival on Friday, May 13th. The trip took us to Palmer High School in Palmer, MA and where we met some of their Band and Choir students, warmed up in their classrooms, and performed in their theatre. ConVal students played and sang for adjudication and then received feedback. Both the Band and Choir were exceptional! They brought energy and excitement to their music along with their technical skills. Both ensembles received distinguished scores in the 90s out of a total of 100. The Choir received a Gold medal and the Band a Platinum. After the performance, ConVal music students went to Six Flags New England where they celebrated their performance and spent time in the park with music students from all over New England.
