Important Reminders for a Successful School Year
- Attendance is imperative to your child's success. Students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently and arrive to class on time.
- We will have regular attendance incentives throughout the school year with the first one being on September 23rd for perfect attendance
- The KCS dress code will be followed.
- Students are not to wear hats or hoods on during the school day
- All shirts should have a sleeve
- Shorts should be mid-thigh
- Please view the KCS Dress Code Policy Here.
- Safety is our number one priority, and students are not able to learn unless they feel/know they are safe. Please encourage your student to report any suspicious behavior or information.
Parking Passes - Campus Safety
Any vehicle on campus that is not registered will be booted and investigated. Repeat student offenders will be towed.
Parking will be enforced this week. Anyone who drives and does not have a parking pass will be called to the front office.
This system will allow us to quickly identify individuals who should not be on campus. Safety is our number one priority and this is one of the many steps we are taking to ensure a safe campus.
Device agreements are required for a student to have a device. Insurance is optional and parents who want coverage must sign up by September 30th. Click HERE to sign up for insurance.
Click the above button to request a locker. After request has been reviewed, locker numbers will be issued during first block.
Parent Square - New Communication Tool
Knox County Schools is now using ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. Invitations to join ParentSquare will be sent via email and text message on July 5. Please click the link in the invitation to activate your account. It takes less than a minute.
Our goal is for every family to join ParentSquare and engage with our school community. We encourage parents to activate their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.
If you would like to watch a few training videos to become more familiar with ParentSquare, please click HERE.
Thank you for supporting Karns High by paying school fees. Please know this money goes directly to support student learning.
School fees go to teacher classrooms and allow teachers to enhance the learning experience and give students more opportunities.
Forms to Complete
We urge families to complete the Free/Reduced Lunch application even if their child does not eat school lunch. Knox County will begin charging for breakfast and lunch unless families fill out and qualify for free/reduced lunch.
If enough of our families qualify, Karns High School can
Receive schoolwide funding assistance for ALL students because qualifying students remain anonymous.
Receive funding proportionate to the real needs of our students. Funds can be spent on staffing, supplies, curriculum needs, and technology.
Apply for grant funding that is now off-limits to us.
Have greater flexibility and freedom to address student needs as they arise.
Have funds to support parent and community engagement.
Can raise our standards because time spent fundraising and problem-solving can be spent improving teaching and learning as well as supporting extracurricular activities.
The 865 Academies
Karns High School is one of seven high schools in Knox County that is a part of the initial cohort of The 865 Academies, a transformative structure designed to create a meaningful high school experience for our students. We will be casting a new vision for the high school experience with Ford Next Generation Learning.
The goal of The 865 Academies is to ensure that our students are Enrolled in post-secondary education, which includes technical school; Enlisted in the military; or Employed in a high-demand, high-paying job field. With this new vision will come changes to the high school experience, including Freshman Academy, college visits, field trips to businesses, externship programs, and internship programs.
We are looking for business and community partners who are willing to give their time and talent to our students and teachers, whether as guest speakers, chaperones, special event volunteers, and collaborative partners who can help our teachers make real-world connections for our students. If you would like to partner with us, please contact Julie Langley, KHS Academy Coach, at email@example.com.
