This week in PK3.3
23rd - 27th November
Happy Birthday Lorenzo!
Celebrating Panama at Flag Ceremony
Monday flag ceremony was full of poetry and song this week as PK3 celebrated Mes de la Patria. Our children sang beautifully and I will be sharing a video with you by email so you too can see them in action. Well sung PK3.3!
Our molas are finished! The children took so much care and concentrated so hard making them and they are amazing! They have been on display outside our classroom all week. They are so colorful and bright we are going to display them in our class for a little longer before sending them home.
Investigating boxes.
On Monday we asked the children "What can we use to put two boxes together?". Ms Jeanette tried rubbing them together but that didn't work! The children made great suggestions; string, glue, paper, elastic or tape. So we got our big bright tape roll and tried it out. Later they continued this exploration, using boxes and other recyclable materials to build cars, robots and gifts for their famly!
What can we do with these boxes?
This week we also talked about an "obstacle course". Using words such as under, over, through and around we used our boxes to make our own course and experimented with different ways of moving. So simple and such fun! If you have some big boxes I recommend trying it at home!
The children also made their own "Mail Express" taking mail all over the world to be delivered.
What are "Small Groups?"
Part of our PK day is set aside to work in small groups. Young children are still developing social and cognitive skills and there are many benefits working together in smaller structured groups; they learn important lessons about cooperation, compromise and the give and take of conversation. We are also able to give more focused attention needed for completing complex tasks and activities.
In small groups this week we have been working on :
- identifying, naming and matching our name letters and letters of our friends.
- answering questions and drawing about about our favorite things.
- identifying and quantifying numbers.
- making 2 dimensional shapes using plasticine and straws.
Fruit smoothies
Digging around school.....
Elsewhere .....
- the children have been painting beautiful shapes during free choice time. We know our shapes!
- sharing and making their own stories in the library.
- building and sorting legos.
- strengthening fine motor skills with playdough.
