OUR STORY - Shout Outs!
WCS Weekly Highlights - Dec. 10-14, 2018
Christmas Cards Designed by Students
Shout Out! to Fike HS Freshman Max B.! With the help of his parents, Max wrote a letter that was published in The Wilson Times thanking the community for helping him feel like he belongs even though he has Autism. The letter had such a positive response that it was named the November nominee for the newspaper's Elizabeth Swindell Award for local commentary. Max's letter also caught the attention of Mayor Bruce Rose, and he surprised Max at school and presented him with a plaque. WCS is so proud of Max and grateful to be a part of such an inclusive and caring community!
Shout Out! to Forest Hills MS Sixth-grader Abraham C. for blowing everyone's minds with his coding skills when he created his very own computer game! Last week, many of our students participated in the Hour of Code, which is a national incentive to introduce computer science to students and show them that anyone can learn how to code. Coding is what makes it possible to create computer software, apps and websites. It was the first time many students, including Abraham, had coded. To play his game, click here. (You win by running into all the dudes wearing orange)!
Shout Out! to WCS Physical Therapist Helen Davis
and Vinson-Bynum ES Student Jeremiah Bynum-Taylor for being featured on the front page of The Wilson Times! Ms. Davis received the Educator of Excellence Award for WCS at the 2018 Exceptional Children’s Conference. She has worked with Jeremiah since he was in preschool, and they share a special bond.
More Shout Outs!
Members of the Elm City MS Junior Optimist International (JOI) Club led a drive and collected 385 canned goods for the Salvation Army. The items were delivered this week. The club members want to thank everyone who donated and the Art Club led by Mrs. Driver for the beautiful banner they created to promote the drive.
Shout Out! to WCS Director of Maintenance Mark Letchworth! He recently met the rigorous requirements to become a Certified Playground Safety Inspector through the National Recreation and Park Association. We are fortunate to have him as a part of our WCS Family, and he leads an incredible team.
