Generation Texas Week
CISD will be celebrating "Generation Texas Week" November 26-November 30 throughout the school district. "Generation Texas" is about the belief that all students belong on the path to education beyond high school. During this week we will learn about different careers and discuss many colleges.
We encourage all students to wear a college shirt to school on "Back to Your Future Day" on Tuesday, November 27 for Generation Texas Week.

Volunteers for Lunch & Recess Duty, Powell Elementary
Three times a year we seek volunteers to cover Lunch & Recess Duty for our teachers. During this time, the teachers are able to eat together as a team.
The second request for Lunch/Recess Duty is Friday, December 7th.
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080a4da4aa29a4fc1-127Girls on the Run (GOTR) Coaches Needed!
What is GOTR? GOTR is an afterschool program for 3rd and 4th grade girls that promotes: leadership, citizenship, health and fitness. Trained coaches lead the girls through research-based curricula, which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. The program runs for 10 weeks starting in February. It culminates with the girls positively affecting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event. GOTR is in need of a few coaches to help with the spring season. So warm-up your spirit fingers, lace up your sneakers and help inspire a group of girls to be strong and healthy. If you are interested in coaching, you will need to go to a training session and become CPR/First Aid certified. Please email Pam Owens as soon as possible at powens@conroeisd.net if you are interested.
Holiday Assistance
Different organizations reach out to Powell Elementary to assist our students and families with items for the holidays. Please let us know if you would welcome assistance and would be willing for Mrs. Nixon, our counselor, to call or email you if an organization volunteers to donate this year. In the past we have had organizations offer to donate food, clothing, and toys to our families in need. If you are interested in receiving assistance, please email Mrs. Nixon at snixon@conroeisd.net or call her at 936-709-1700.
Parents Visiting for Lunch
Nominations for Gifted & Talented Testing
Nominations are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until February, nominations are accepted at this time. Nominations can be made by the parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in nominating your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Nominations will be accepted through December 18. You may request a nomination form from Erin Anderson at eanderson@conroeisd.net. You can also find the nomination form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.
Flipping the Switch on Anxiety
Have you tried common anxiety interventions and found them to not be successful? Did you know that in order for interventions to be successful you have to first identify the part of the brain that is producing the anxiety? In this session, you will learn how to identify what part of the brain is producing the anxiety then hear easy to implement interventions useful for parents and students.
Open to parents & students of all grade levels.
