Weekly Update Ben Eielson J.S. HS.
Sunday December 6th, 2020
Ben Eielson Families,
It is an exciting time to be a Lynx or Raven! Here is some info on happenings at Ben Eielson Jr. Sr. High School.
This past week we welcomed back, from the District's complete remote instruction, staff to the building along with identified students through the Board approved Phase in Plan, (those needing access to services in the building). Wednesday Ben Eielson had the wonderful opportunity to host a presentation by the 'Eskimo Ninja' of American Ninja Warriors, Nick Hanson. Nick is a world class athlete who has teamed up with GCI to host presentations. He is a high energy, enthusiastic individual that provided a message of personal wellness both physically and mentally. It was a pleasure to have him connect with Ben Eielson students!
Academically we are entering the final two weeks of this grading term, for JH it represents what would be the fourth quarter of classes and for HS it would represent the 2nd semester of courses. Please scroll down to find the Final Exams Schedule. The bell/class schedule for the week of December 7th has not been adjusted, it will follow the daily remote schedule of classes Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Friday. As well as daily after 1:30pm and all day Wednesday scheduled time for academic support.
Student schedules for classes beginning in January are being finalized. High School students who were not successful in English 9, English 10, Algebra I, or Algebra Fundamentals/Alg. 1.1 are being contacted and schedules adjusted to enroll in a 'trailer' course for credit recovery/repeating the course during the Spring grading terms.
Ben Eielson high school students taking AP CALC, AP Physics, AP Computer Science, AP English (12th Graders) courses through the Blended/In Person learning model will be receiving information regarding support from our partner, the National Math & Science Initiative or NMSI. BEHS has been awarded this opportunity for professional development for staff and support for our students. Information on accessing supports and zoom meetings for students and parents will come out.
Ben Eielson Jr. High and Crawford Elementary will soon be included in a press release as we have been selected as 1 of 10 Military Connected School Sites to host a STEMKAMP for students in grades 3 through 8. More information will come out as we are excited to be awarded this opportunity to host a week long Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics HANDS ON camp! Announcements to follow!
If you have questions please call on us at the school, 907-372-3110 ext. 0 or ext. 1.

CTE Opportunity - AK Native/American Indian HS Students
The Fairbanks Native Association has a fantastic opportunity for Alaska Native/American Indian high school juniors and seniors! The Allied Health Pathways Project, a partnership between FNA and FNSBSD, offers eligible high school students an all-expense paid opportunity to earn certification in any of 8 different health care pathways while still in high school and beyond after graduation.
Counselors may direct students to FNA's project coordinator, Erin Edenshaw, to help them get started right now during enrollment for the Spring semester.
There are about 225 Alaska Native/American Indian junior and senior students eligible for this opportunity in our district. Please click on this link to get more information about this opportunity!
