Wrapping up the 2nd week
San Jose field trip
We visited 3 museums and shopped for souvenirs on Thursday! The first museum was the National Theatre Museum where a tour guide gave us lots of interesting facts about the theatre as a place where common people can interact with very wealthy and influential people - even the president of Costa Rica! We walked to the main market in San Jose. Our ambassadors had a blast shopping for soccer jerseys, jewelry and hand painted souvenirs, eating Costa Rican ice cream, and one lucky student even took pictures with a rooster on his head! We had lunch and visited a nearby butterfly garden. The second museum was the National museum of Costa Rica; our students saw army relics and lots of historical Costa Rican artifacts. After this, we did some more shopping for souvenirs in a small market by our last museum. Our students used their Spanish skills to negotiate prices with the vendors; everyone was in awe of our kiddos! Our last stop was the Jade museum. This was an interactive museum that showcased Costa Rican life before European exploration. It's hard to believe we packed all of these visits into one day in downtown San Jose.
Grandparents Day
Yurusti hosted a special event for all their students' grandparents today! All grades, from pre-kindergarten to 6th grade performed a dance, skit or sang a song for their grandparents. Our ambassadors were not excluded from these activities, so they were up on the stage alongside their Costa Rican siblings. Despite heavy rain, hundreds of grandparents were in attendance.
