Amazing Things are happening in 3rd grade at Evergreen!
Reading: Third grade is learning how to annotate or “talk to the text” with our stories in our Reading series. We are discussing characters, setting, plots and genre within our stories. We are finding figurative language and trying this within our own writing pieces. We are sailing along as we read!
Writing: We are learning to write paragraphs. The students are realizing that they do need to revise their writing pieces and that a writing piece is never done without proofreading! The students are proud of their work that they are in the midst of writing, as they should be!
Social Studies: We are finishing up exploring communities and landforms. They have learned what makes up a community and that we live in the suburban community. Next, we will be jumping into the Engineering Unit within our Science books.
Math: Our third grade Math Wizards have been reviewing place value, addition, and two-step word problems. Next up will be a review of subtraction. They are getting ready to explore third grade math concepts.
"Tail Waggin' Tutors"...Dog therapy is returning to evergreen
Dear Evergreen Families,
The Evergreen Library is excited to announce that we will be again offering a special opportunity for students to participate in... “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” certified through Therapy Dog International (TDI). This program is designed to help students reduce stress and celebrate reading while improving reading skills by interacting with trained registered therapy dogs while at school.
Handlers and their dogs will work with small groups of students whose parents or legal guardians have given their written authorization for their participation in the program, during school hours for approximately 15 minutes. There is no charge for this program. The therapy dogs and their handlers are fully insured and have undergone extensive training to participate in animal-assisted therapy through Therapy Dog International.
Your permission will allow your child to have the opportunity to read with the dogs. Students who have parental permission will be notified ahead of time of when they will be participating. Please be mindful of your child’s pet allergies and/or fears when giving permission. Depending on the number of those who sign up we are hoping to get everyone at least one visit this year, hopefully more.
Click below to complete the signed digital Parental Permission Slip. Please do a permission slip for each child if more than one at Evergreen is interested. A completed form is required to participate in this program. Participation is optional.
