Holly Academy News & Views
September 24, 2021
Holly Academy is a wonderful environment in which to work during normal times. In times of need, it is so gratifying to work in an environment where everyone works together for the common good! In the absence of a Curriculum Director, so many staff members have offered to assist me in a myriad of ways. I am so blessed to be supported by caring and thoughtful peers. A special THANK YOU to Mrs. Craven, Ms. Burns, Mrs. Melton, and Mrs. Munerance for ALL you do to support me. Curriculum Director first round interviews are scheduled next week. Hopefully, by the end of October, we will have our new administrator in place. It's great to be a Husky!
HAEF "Thank you"!
On Wednesday, members of HAEF (Holly Academy Educational Foundation) provided a coffee cart with snacks for our staff. It was a wonderful way to start the day! We really appreciated your thoughtfulness. It's great to be a Husky!
NWEA MAP testing is in full swing! Students take the MAP test 2-3 times per school year based on requirements from the Michigan Department of Education and Central Michigan University, our charter authorizer. The following grades take these subject area tests:
Y5/K/1 - Reading and Math
2nd - Reading, Math, English Language Arts
3th-8th - Reading, Math, English Language Arts, Science
After each assessment cycle (fall, winter, and spring) we hold data meetings. Each grade level team meets with the intervention staff, special education staff, and administration to discuss each child's assessment scores. During these meetings, we make decisions to add additional support (if needed) to promote learning growth. This is one of the many ways we meet our mission, “To provide individual academic success through a positive family/school/community partnership.”
If you have any questions about NWEA testing, please reach out to Tina Craven (firstname.lastname@example.org). Dare to be remarkable!

The safety of our Huskies is our number one priority. We have noticed that students are running between cars in the morning in the west parking lot. If you are dropping off your Husky to walk into the school, we request that you walk them from the car to the door. Thank you.
Copper Country Coders is a student-led organization at Michigan Technological University dedicated to educating pre-college students in programming and all the fun included. Each year, we offer a variety of courses that range in difficulty for students with absolutely no experience to students who excel with programming.
Classes are held on Saturdays from 1 to 2:30pm. There will be roughly 10 classes per MTU semester as we take breaks for holidays. As for cost, we simply ask for donations to those that can afford it, otherwise we are 100% free. You can find more information about us on our website, coders.mtu.edu. For middle school students interested, there will be a Zoom orientation on September 25, 2021, from 1-2:30pm.
Laura Albrant is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. Each student participating in the Zoom session must have a parent present.
