## Math

We are currently working on Unit 3 in math. We are working on different strategies to add and subtract. Some of these strategies include using a number line, using tally marks, skip counting, and using a number grid. The students are also working on applying these strategies to word problems. In order for me to work in small groups, I usually present a mini-lesson on a concept or skill, then the students practice different math activities while I pull students to work in small groups. Hands down...the students favorite day is GAME DAY! On this day, the students work on various math games and I work again in small groups. Game day is wonderful, the students who are working on a skill can practice, while other students can think about strategy. Plus, it is FUN!

## Science

We are wrapping up this unit on measurement. The students have really gotten a grasp of measuring small and large things with non-standard units. The last few experiments we have done have been measuring large objects. The students have been practicing counting by tens in order to get the correct measure. This unit is a great preparation for the unit in math we do measuring with an inch and with a foot. The students are beginning to internalize why it is so important that we use standard measurements.

## Writing

We have finished our small moment/narrative writing unit. We had a celebration on Wednesday! The students were so excited!

We really enjoyed getting together with our fifth grade buddies in Mr. Chung's class. Our buddies played a roll a turkey game and a turkey game that helped us with our sight words. It is the beginning of a great friendship! So much fun and learning was had by all...we can't wait to get together again.

## Stone Soup

We read the story Stone Soup and enjoyed the story so much we performed a Reader's Theatre based on the book. We performed it for Mrs. Seymour's class....they liked it so much that they wrote us thank you letters. We also wrote a retelling to show how much we comprehended from the story. To celbrate we shared in some stone soup. What a perfect accompaniment to a chilly day before Thanksgiving.
