Cedar Grove Friday Flash
March 6, 2020
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
It has been a busy week with many fun reading events! On Monday, guest readers from the community came to our school to read to students in their classrooms (see more about Guest Reader Day below). Yesterday morning, students and several staff members came to school dressed as a favorite book character and participated in a parade, and last night was our Read Aloud Night. It was so nice to have our families join us for an enjoyable night of reading. Families were also able to visit the Scholastic Book Fair, which has been open all this week. Special thanks to Mrs. Gordon for organizing our guest reader day, to Mrs. Hirschhorn for organizing Read Aloud Night, to our many staff readers, and to our PTA for providing another successful Book Fair.
Looking ahead to next week, our PTA Bingo Night will be on Friday, March 13 from 6:30-8:30 at Hallie Wells MIddle School in the school cafeteria. We hope that you and your family will come out and join us!
Have a great weekend!

Guest Reader Day
Cedar Grove students enjoyed Guest Reader Day last Monday in honor of Dr. Seuss’s Birthday. Each class had a read aloud from a special guest. Some of our wonderful readers included Damascus Volunteer Firefighters, Keyote from the Frederick Keys, Germantown Chick Fil A owner Kayla Smith and the Cow, our cluster principals, Tyler Butler from Butler’s Orchard, Amy Alapati Children’s Librarian from Damascus, and veterinarian Dr. Skipton. Please see some of the pictures below. Many thanks to our readers for taking time to read to our students.
We would also like to thank the PTA for the monies to purchase a book for each classroom.

From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Our Media Specialist
It’s back! During the month of March, we’re once again reading 16 books on the March Book Madness bracket to see which title is the best! We started on March 2 and will continue to vote at the end of every week to see which books need to face off for the final two! Students can access the read alouds/stories via Google Classroom and then vote for their favorites. Please have your students log on to their Google Chrome accounts, and access Google Classroom. The code to join the March Book Madness classroom is lyqplgz. As the month progresses, we will narrow down our favorites until we end up with the one winner! This year, we had guest readers – parents and MCPS staff – reading our selections to add to the read aloud experience so we’re very excited and hope your students enjoy it!
Please enjoy the March Media Monthly.
