Race for Education Fundraiser

On Friday, March 23, Wolfsville Elementary School will once again be participating in our Race for Education. We invite family and friends to join us in helping to raise funds to update our Media Center, cultivating an innovative and creative learning environment engaging to students (think technology, new organizational visuals, flexible seating, creative storage and more)! Each participant will raise funds by asking sponsors to contribute a tax-deductible donation to the PTA. On the day of the race, students will jog and/or walk around the 1/4 mile area behind our school as many times as they are able in one hour’s time. Students and classes will also have an opportunity to receive a number of prizes based on their participation in our Race for Education. Specific instructions for the event were sent home to families in the Thursday Folder on 1/25. We thank you in advance for your support and participation in this very special event to support our school!

Parents and guardians of students who will be entering the 6th grade are invited to attend the Middletown Middle School Parent Orientation Night. You will have an opportunity to hear from staff about our school and the Middle School program throughout the evening. We hope that the evening will answer many of the questions you may have pertaining to 6th grade, registration, and the middle school program. Please note that our new 6th graders will have their own orientation during the student Move-Up Day event on May 31, 2018. We encourage all parent(s)/guardian(s) to attend on February 28, 2018 as you plan for next school year.

Optional: Meet & Greet with Staff from 6:15pm – 6:30pm in the cafeteria

Magnet Program

The magnet program is designed for academically gifted students in grades 3 – 5 with superior performance in both language arts and mathematics. Nomination booklets, which will be available beginning January 31, 2018, may be obtained from the school office, the FCPS Office of Advanced Academics or online at http://www.fcps.org/advacademics. After January 31, 2018, the Office of Advanced Academics will be accepting nominations of present second through fourth grade students for possible placement in the magnet program for the 2018 - 2019 school year.

Students may be nominated for the magnet program by school staff, parents or jointly. Parents and teachers are encouraged to review information, including some characteristics of gifted students that is posted at http://www.fcps.org/advacademics. Teacher nominations, parent nominations and a completed Parent/Guardian Rating Form are due in the school office by March 1, 2018, so that tests can be administered and information required to complete the nomination packet may be gathered by school staff.

A Magnet Program Overview for parents interested in nominating their child will be held on February 1, 2018, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Central Office (191 South East Street). Parking is available in the East All Saints Street parking deck or in the parking lot located next to the Central Office off of East All Saints Street. Accessible parking is located in the Commerce Street lot located behind the Central Office. Enter the Board Room at the front of the building. The overview will include components of the magnet program and the processes leading to placement. Please note that this meeting is designed for parents, not students. The snow date for this meeting is February 8, 2018 at the same time and location. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Advanced Academics at 301-696-6891.

MVPHP 'McFundraiser'

Take the night off from cooking and bring the family to McDonald’s for dinner! And while you’re there, you’ll be raising money for Middletown Valley People Helping People. With McDonald’s new healthier choices there’s something for everyone.

Our mission is to develop and support programs that benefit the less fortunate citizens of the Middletown Valley. MVPHP provides emergency assistance throughout the year. We also coordinate holiday assistance and a school supply drive yearly. We depend on funding from people like you to help us help others. This year, we’re selling cheeseburgers as a fundraiser for our non-profit organization. Well, we are…sort of. On February 21st, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., MVPHP will celebrate “McFundraiser Night” at the McDonald’s located at 9615 Myersville-Middletown Road, Myersville MD. A portion of the sales that evening will go directly to our organization! Our newest project, and the reason for adding this fundraiser, is to help all the children of the valley be able to afford to participate in our excellent sports opportunities.
