Background Information Q & A
What is Microsoft Lync?
Lync is a communication tool. It is secure, quick, and versatile.
What does it do?
Lync can do many things. For starters, you can Instant Message (IM) other colleagues in your network. You can share files, share your desktop, meet virtually, record, or present.
Where do I find Lync and how do I login?
The Lync application can be found on your laptop's desktop, you may see it open when you start your laptop. You can add a tile (shortcut) on the metro side of your laptop (the mobile side. In addition, you can access Lync messaging through Office 365 when logged in.
You use your main LISD network credentials.
How do I start?
How do I find colleagues?
Type in the name of the person you seek, or type their email prefix or username portion of the email. It is a live search, so it will filter your results as you type.
Can I add them to a contacts list?
Yes! Click on the icon of people with a plus sign, to the right of the application. Create a group to send IM in bulk.
After you click on the icon of the man with the plus sign, search for the contact. When the colleague is in your results list, right click and select "add to..."
What are the icons at the bottom of the pop up box?
The callout is for IM messaging
Start a video recording with colleagues.
You can do audio calls only using the telephone receiver icon.
Share and collaborate using the presentations.

Can I add more colleagues in my conversation after I started?
Yes, you can. Once you have a conversation going, you can add more people by hovering over the icon of people at the bottom and click on 'invite more people.'
