SENIORS
ORDERING A FINAL TRANSCRIPT FOR COLLEGE ADMISSIONS
Once the college of attendance is determined, the senior must:
1) Go into PARCHMENT
2.) Log into Parchment using the email and password set by the student
3.) "ORDER TRANSCRIPT"
4.) When prompted during the order as to WHEN the transcript should be sent, the senior should choose "HOLD FOR GRADES" which will keep the order in queue until final grades are printed in early June
5.) There should be NO CHARGE for the final transcript as long as the order is placed before graduation.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It is imperative seniors submit the final transcript. It is not uncommon to have funds withheld, schedules withheld or students unable to schedule fall classes until the college receives the final transcript. No one needs that stress! Get the transcript ordered ASAP and enjoy the transition to college.

Testing Information
FINAL EXAMS
PLAN NOW FOR SUMMER-FALL TESTING
Colleges do NOT have a preference regarding the tests...they really want to see YOUR BEST SCORE from either test. The LN Counselors encourage students to take BOTH TESTS to determine which provides the best scores for college admissions.
WHO? Students who have completed Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II are typically ready to test
WHEN? Juniors (Class of 2019) should have testing complete before October 15th to participate in Early Action college admissions. Test this summer to allow time to RETEST should higher scores be needed. Sophomores (Class of 2020) may test before the start of junior year to obtain "baseline" scores and may retest during junior year to earn the scores desired for admission or scholarship consideration. AUGUST SAT REGISTRATION closes in late July during the busy return-so-school rush. Save the date in your calendar to make sure you get registered without a late-fee if August SAT is preferred for your junior/senior in the fall of 2018.
***If unsure when YOUR student should test, contact the assigned counselor for guidance***
HOW? Register on the indicated website and make sure you register EARLY to avoid a LATE FEE.
ACT--register at www.actstudent.org for all test dates
SAT--is available at www.collegeboard.org for all test dates
TEST PREP
College Board offers the KHAN ACADEMY-SAT PREP and ACT just released the ACT ACADEMY test prep program.
Students must not test "cold" for these college-entrance exams. Working through either or both of these test prep programs allows students to be best prepared--and minimizes nerves--for testing day.

Parenting Teens
Preparing for Season 2 of "13 Reasons Why"
The second season of Netflix’s controversial show “13 Reasons Why” airs this Friday, May 18. When the show premiered last March, the first season’s handling of heavy subject matter around sexual assault, depression, and suicide stirred debate among parents, principals, school counselors, youth, mental health providers/advocates and many others.
The National Association of School Psychologists recommends that vulnerable youth (such as those struggling with depression, previous suicidal behavior, or trauma) do NOT watch the series, and most certainly not alone.
If your child has an interest in watching this show, mental health advocates encourage you to watch it together and engage in thoughtful conversation to help process the issues addressed in the series.
With the second season, Netflix is offering some resources to help parents take control of the subject matter head-on. They now offer a parental control for individual movies and series in the form of a PIN number. You will be able to assign a unique code for specific films and shows, which includes both seasons of “13 Reasons Why.” When you set the code in the account section of your Netflix account, your child will not be able to access any episodes in the series without this code. (Excerpted from Tech Talk Tuesday--Screenagers)
While we don't know the exact storyline for the second season, possible topics set up at the end of the first season could include another suicide attempt, sexual assault, and violence.
Please use and share these resources to help your family and others navigate conversations around these serious topics:
- Netflix has created a discussion guide for season one of ‘13 Reasons Why.’
- Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE): Tips for Watching New Netflix Series '13 Reasons Why'
- Common Sense Media: 5 Conversations to Have with Your Teens After '13 Reasons Why'
Warning Signs of Suicide:
- Suicidal threats in the form of direct (e.g., "I am going to kill myself") and indirect (e.g., "I wish I could fall asleep and never wake up again") statements. Threats can be verbal or written.
- Making final arrangements (e.g., giving away prized possessions).
- Preoccupation with death.
- Changes in behavior, appearance, thoughts, and/or feelings.
Suicide is NOT a solution. Suicide is an irreversible choice regarding a temporary problem. There is help and hope. If a suicide threat seems serious, Call 911 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) immediately.
