Class of 2016
Welcome Back from Mrs. Coyne - Week One
As the College Admission Coordinator, it is my job to provide programming to help you find your post-secondary path. There are several ways you can be sure to hear about scholarships, college visits, dates, and deadlines. The easiest way to stay informed is to listen to the announcements every day. Here are some additional ways both students and parents can stay connected to College and Career opportunities.
Friday Newsletters
Parents can also register for a Naviance account. Parent accounts are very helpful as you work with your student to ensure they are meeting their deadlines. Parents can also assist their student with the scholarship search through Naviance. For access to a parent account, send the e-mail address you would like listed on the account to bdhnaviance@wayne.k12.in.us. You will receive an e-mail with registration instructions.
Free Text Reminders!
I have created a remind account for important reminders and updates for students and families in the Class of 2016. To receive messages via text, text @a5528 to 81010. You can opt-out of messages at anytime by replying, 'unsubscribe @a5528'
You can also receive messages via email, simply send an email to a5528@mail.remind.com. To unsubscribe, reply with 'unsubscribe' in the subject line.
College and Career Calender
Paper copies of the calendar are available in student services.
College Visits!
The college visits are listed under the 'colleges' tab in Naviance. After you have logged in and found the visits, follow these steps.

Deadlines are final!
Be sure to check the website of all colleges of interest to learn the terms of their deadline. Most deadlines can be defined as either non-restrictive or restrictive.
If you apply under a non-restrictive application plan you will have until May 1 to accept an enrollment offer. Here are the definitions of some common non-restrictive admission terms.
- Regular Decision - The final deadline. The application and all supporting materials must be in the college's hand by this date.
- Rolling Admission - colleges that review and make decisions on applications under this method review each application as it is received. Apply early to rolling admission schools.
- Early Action - Usually early action is non-binding but read the application carefully because some colleges have binding early action applications. Students who apply and send supporting materials before an early action deadline will receive an earlier decision.
- Priority - The priority deadline is usually the deadline for maximum scholarship consideration.
Some of the more selective colleges offer restrictive application programs. If you apply under a restrictive program, you are making a commitment to attend that college if you are admitted. These programs can be very confusing. Please let me know if you have questions. Here are the definitions of some common restrictive admission terms.
- Early Decision - These admission programs are essentially a contract between the student and the college. By applying early decision you will sign an agreement indicating that if the college accepts you, you will withdraw all other college applications and attend the early decision college.
- Restrictive Early Action - You will receive an early decision but have until May 1 to confirm. Be aware that applying through some restrictive early action programs will mean you cannot apply early action to any other college.
This link will take you to a spreadsheet with the deadlines of colleges to which our students applied last year. Because deadlines can and do change from year to year, please confirm the deadline on the colleges website. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HsxvpunEKaZIZ7Xi8bWvDBjuX8-xkuip6ImGYxknsUk/edit?usp=sharing
SAT & ACT
Most colleges require an SAT or ACT score by their posted deadline for students to be considered for admission. Scores are typically released two weeks after the test. It is crucial that seniors pay close attention to the date their scores will be released in comparison to the deadlines of the colleges of interest. This link will take you to registration information for both the SAT and the ACT during the 2015 - 2016 school year. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwmE0LU9jQ56V0s5Z2NfQ1Z1Nkk/view?usp=sharing
Indy Westside College Fair! SAVE THE DATE!
The Indy Westside College Fair will be held on October 1 from 7:00 - 8:30 in the MPA. Last year over 80 colleges, universities, trade schools, and military representatives were in attendance. In addition to visits with the representatives, break out sessions will be offered to help students and families at all grade levels navigate the world of college admissions.
