Coding Lessons from NextLesson

Hackathon Part 1, Math, ELA & Science, Grades 5-8
This project makes use of resources published for the Hour of Code and organizes them into a "hackathon" for upper elementary or middle school students. The project engages students at the Wannabe level, then moves through tasks at the Junior Coder level, Code Monkey level, and finally Hacker Level - reflecting on their learning as they go.

Code for Minecrafting, Math, Grade 7
Students use information from the popular game Minecraft to practice writing algebraic expressions, using the distributive property and combining like terms. As video game developers, they must simplify Minecraft recipes to ensure the game speed is as fast as possible.
