There are many users on the internet who use it for one purpose-- to trick people. Even though most of the time it is harmless, it can cause a lot of commotion around the web. Many pranks have made it viral and have intrigued response from several audiences. In some cases, prankers go too far and may even steal money by posing as someone in need or requesting money for a good cause.
Helicopter Shark
This (fake) picture made it viral in 2001 when a user mashed a picture of a helicopoter by the Golden Gate Bridge and a shark from South Africa together.
HOAX
As you can see, pranks like these are very disturbing and can affect the lives of many.
Silly pranks
There are also harmless, silly hoaxes like these that can almost be made believable because of the articles, location, date, etc..

The main targets for internet hoaxes are celebrities, athletes, and other well known people. They target these people to harm their reputation, try to get them to respond, or just as a simple prank for humor.
