Baseball
differentiated baseball
- This strategy could be used at any grade level 6-8.
- The big idea is to review for an upcoming test. It's a fun and interactive way for students to work in group to review for a test.
- This is a great strategy for math.
- Before hand you need to have the questions that you want students to review written down on an index card. You need to have several questions made with the varying degrees of difficulty. For example: if you are working on solving equations a single would be an easy one step equation. A home run would be where the student has to solve a multi-step equation.
Directions
- First students are broken up in to 2 teams. Offence and Defense. Have the 2 teams sit on opposite sides of the room.
- Next give one team white boards while the other team has a sheet of paper for them to show their work on. The offence is always going to solving the problems on the white board. the defense is always going to be solving the problems on the paper.
- You can flit a coin to see which team will be offence and which team will be defense. The offence goes first up to bat.
- The start off batter gets the option of having a single, double, or home run. They have to solve the problem and show their work on their white board. If they get the answer correct they get to take their base. If they don't get it correct, they strike out. After 3 strikes that team is out.
- If the player up to bat gets it wrong, the ball is in the air and the defense has a chance to score.
- The team with most points wins at the end of class.
