December Newsletter
Cholla HS 23-24SY
Mr. Miranda - Principal
Hello Students, Parents, and Guardians,
We are down to two weeks left in the semester. It is crunch time, so be sure to stay on top of your assignments and reach out to teachers if you have any questions about your grade. Make sure to study for all upcoming final exams. How you finish out the semester will determine if you get credit for the course or not. It will also impact your grade point average.
We are seeing an increase in illnesses for students and staff, so be sure to take good care of yourselves. If you are sick, we ask that you stay home until you feel better.
We are all looking forward to a nice long winter break! We hope that everyone utilizes the break to spend meaningful time with family and friends. It is important to take time for ourselves to regroup and re-energize so that we are ready for the second semester. Seniors, this will be your final semester at Cholla High School, so make sure it is a positive experience!
Go Chargers!

Curriculum Updates by Cathy Adams - ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Students, as we are less than 2 weeks away from the end of the 1st semester, I wanted to remind you that you need to stay on top of your assignments. Reminder, at the end of the semester you will receive 2 grades,1 grade for the 2nd Quarter, and 1 grade for the semester. The semester grade is important as this will be utilized to calculate your GPA. Please attend tutoring/office hours if you need help in any of your classes. If you need help understanding your credits, please make an appointment with your counselor.
We look forward to our December Graduation. Graduation will take place on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, at 6 PM at Catalina High School. Graduates need to arrive by 5 PM.
We wish you a happy and healthy holiday season. We look forward to finishing the school year strong.

Greetings Cholla Chargers!
As we wind down this semester, it’s a good time to reflect on the growth and changes that have occurred with each student. The break is also a wonderful time to rest, relax, and recharge for the Spring semester.
And while many people enjoy the holidays, we also know that this time of year can be a time of stress and uncertainty for many. If you or your child need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our counselors. They can connect you with services both here and in the community.
We hope you enjoy the time-off and we can’t wait to see you in 2024!
Counseling Department
Dear Cholla Families-
As we approach the end of the first semester, we want to ensure that all students are on track for success. If your student has faced challenges and received failing grades in core classes (English, Math, Science, Social Studies), we encourage them to sign up for before or after-school credit recovery sessions when we resume classes in January so they can stay on track with credits.
For our seniors, it's crucial to be aware that failing required semester 2 classes will impact their graduation in May. Seniors in this situation will need to make up classes in summer school to achieve a June graduation. Additionally, please note that no semester 2 classes can be taken in credit recovery until summer school.
For our 9th, 10th, and 11th graders, course registration for the next academic year will begin in January. It's important for students to carefully consider their class choices during this process, as schedule changes will not be made in August. We wish all our students a restful winter break, and we eagerly anticipate a successful and fulfilling 2024!
We're excited to soon welcome new Chargers to campus next year - we've been tabling at middle schools and this month got to visit Valencia's Career Fair. We also met the Director of Operations at Pima's Desert Vista Campus, Jonas Camp, who is a 2000 Cholla graduate!
Note from the Dean: Please remind your students to go to class on time, especially in these last days of the semester. We're seeing an increase in ditching and tardies. We want students to get all the credits towards graduation.
IB - International Baccalaureate by Teresa Green
The time is coming soon for students to choose their classes for next year. Interested in the 9th and 10th grade honors (IB Prep) and/or 11th and 12th college preparatory (IB) pathway? Reach out for more information! Lots of options and pathways to follow: IB Prep, IB Diploma Programme, IB Career-Related Programme and IB Certificates.
Recruitment continues as IB students talk to potential students about the IB Programme.
Fun celebration and recognition of all of the IB Prep and IB students who challenge themselves academically at Cholla...about 450 students in all! Pictures will be in the yearbook!
AVID College and Career
We're excited to soon welcome new Chargers to campus next year - we've been tabling at middle schools and this month got to visit Valencia's Career Fair. We also met the Director of Operations at Pima's Desert Vista Campus, Jonas Camp, who is a 2000 Cholla graduate!
One great benefit of being in AVID are the field trips! We've done trips to ASU and Empire Beauty School this year and look forward to more next semester.
Note from the Dean: Please remind your students to go to class on time, especially in these last days of the semester. We're seeing an increase in ditching and tardies. We want students to get all the credits towards graduation.
Library Updates by Ms. Case
Library
This is just a reminder about the library hours during our lunches. We are closed during 1st lunch, and any student who has 2nd lunch and wants to come in has to obtain a pass from the librarian before 2nd lunch. In January, the library will be closed for six weeks. Two of our classrooms are being renovated, so those teachers will be in the library with their classes. I am asking that all students look for overdue books over the break. Seniors who have outstanding fines/overdue books will not be cleared to graduate in May until these are taken care of.
21st Century
Our 21st Century program is doing great this semester. This month we wanted to highlight one of our new clubs, Cricut for U. Students are learning how to use the Cricut machine and are able to design their own shirts and other items. Mrs. Santa Cruz is enthusiastic about teaching students this new skill. As a reminder, any students attending 21st Century before or after school programs should complete a registration form and turn it in to their club teacher.
