Lake Elementary

Week of April 5, 2021

Big picture

Dear Families,

We hope you had a chance to enjoy this spring break week! We look forward to our return to our final trimester of the year!

We've heard some confusion out in the community after the last special board meeting about students returning to in person learning on campus. That discussion was regarding middle and high school students. At this time, elementary parents who selected virtual learning after re-registration in December and whose students are currently in a virtual classroom, will remain virtual for the remainder of the year. Parents will have an opportunity to indicate their preferred learning model for the 2021-2022 school year in a Lake survey in April. I encourage all families to complete that upcoming survey as this will help us with our planning for next year.

This is a great time to re-energize and focus on learning for a strong end of the year. Please be on time everyday, come to school ready to learn, reach out when you have questions or need support. We are your partners in learning and want the best for our learning community.

A Musical Moment with Mrs. Corso

Lake 3rd and 4th grade Classic families:

We would like to start playing our recorders outside on campus during music class. This year, in order to follow current guidelines from the California Department of Public Health, any playing of the recorder by students must be done outside with a physical distance of 6 feet. Face masks will be worn at all times when not playing, and covering of the nose by the face mask will be implemented to the maximum extent possible. Please be aware that regardless of our safety measures, there is some increased likelihood for transmission from exhaled droplets during recorder playing.

If you wish for your child to opt out of participating in playing the recorder, please contact Mrs. Corso with your child’s name and teacher. You can email Mrs. Corso at

If you are OK with this change, please have your child pack and keep their recorder in their backpack so they can use it at school and also practice at home if desired. Thanks!

5th grade parents:

It's that exciting time of year when kids are picking their electives for their middle schools next year! I highly encourage your kids to keep up their music education by choosing band or choir in middle school! Our kids have an excellent background and will succeed at this next level. Madison has an vibrant band program that feeds Ranch Buena Vista and there are several options at VIDA including band, musical theater, and choir as well. Let me know if you have any questions! I love to see our Dolphins continue their music education at the secondary level!

Message from the Superintendent - Your Feedback Wanted!

Esteemed Parents, Students, and Staff,

Your efforts and ideas are making a difference in Vista Unified's continuous improvement process. We have created a set of two feedback surveys (LCAP and COVID Relief). The LCAP survey is intended to gather feedback about how to improve the actions and services identified in the Blueprint that will assist all students, with emphasis on unduplicated students (students who are economically disadvantaged, foster youth, homeless youth, English learners, and students with special needs). We have created a slide deck with a brief overview of the Blueprint and LCAP, including a link to the current actions and services. We designed the survey for you to provide whatever level of feedback you choose, meaning that each question is optional. We have two LCAP Community Forums scheduled (March 23 and 25, 2021) to get feedback from any member of the community.

Click HERE to access the LCAP Survey.

We have also created a brief survey to gather your feedback on the current state and federal COVID relief funding. In the same slide deck, we have included a description of the three relief funding sources and the allowable use guidelines.

Click HERE to access the COVID Relief Survey.

Important Note: The survey must be completed by the 5:00 p.m. on April 2, 2021.

Message from the Library

New Devices

We are slowly rolling out new devices. A couple of things to note:
  • When it's your student's turn to exchange devices, they will need to turn in their current device AND charger.
  • Your child's teacher will communicate with you when it's your class's time to exchange devices.

We are so fortunate to get new devices and do not anticipate another round of new devices anytime in the near future. Please help us take care of these devices as they will be used by many students in the next few years. For those who have school devices at home, please have a plan for how to keep this device safe (a special place to store it, keeping food and drinks away from it, etc.). Thank you for your help in keeping our devices in good working order!
