Happy Almost "New Year"
I don’t know about you, but this summer is flying by. This summer, I was busy with house projects, but was also able to put is a few moments of relaxation and rejuvenation. I found myself in deep thought about planning for the year ahead of us. I’m guessing you all had some combination of the these moments, as well.
I continue to have each of you “on my mind” as we approach our new school year. My hope is that your own self-care and time with family and friends continues to be a priority in the final weeks of summer vacation. I am committed to providing you with the information you need to know as we transition back to work and begin preparing for instruction.
This past week, I learned a lot of information regarding the following topics:
- Health and Safety practices for Employees at School
- Training for Canvas and Zoom
- Student Materials & Distribution for Home Learning
- Family Outreach and Support
Please take some time to read through this document carefully, and keep it as a handy resource. As you might imagine, I do not have "all the answers" right now, and I am learning more each day. If you have questions that are not addressed here, please feel free to contact me, or just try to hang on...more information will be coming as I have it.
If there is anything you need before we are officially back together, feel free to give me a call or send me a text (562)897-1836.
With anticipation for another great year,
Rachel
Accessing the campus and your classroom
Starting Monday 8/17, teachers are able to access classrooms. Teachers who choose to come on campus next week (8/17-8/21) will need to:
- Use the front door entrance only (please do not enter through your classroom doors, nor parking lot gates)
- Pass a health screen (temperature check and answer Covid-19 health-related questions) in the office before going to the classroom
- Access the campus only between 8:00 am– 2:00 pm (classroom space will be cleaned and sanitized starting at 2:00)
- Text Rachel or Claudia with your arrival time on the day(s) you come.
In an effort to minimize common area use, you are welcome to bring your mini-fridge and/or microwave back into your classroom for the foreseeable future. But please remember your classroom must be free of personal items and all counter tops must be clear (except mircowave and fridge).
Please pick up supplies for you and your classroom (located on the office front table): soap, hand sanitizer, gloves...
Please keep in mind that we are upholding all CDC guidelines, including wearing a mask when in public spaces or interacting with any other person on campus. Also, please know that all restrooms will be fully stocked with soap and cleaned and sanitized frequently throughout each day. More details to follow. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me or Richard if you have any specific questions/concerns.
A huge thank you to Richard, Tori, and May for their hard work throughout the summer to ensure all parts of our campus are clean, sanitized, and safe!
SMART START
Student Material Distribution
Materials for Students
We will be organizing and building materials "kits" for each student, to be distributed the week of August 24th (specific dates and times TBD). As you and your grade levels begin to "plan," please keep in mind what you think your students may need at home in order to be successful. Below you will find a list of materials that we will be included, by grade level.
Here is the initial plan - We will need to put together bags (bags have been ordered, waiting for delivery) of general supplies, these will include anthologies, textbooks, materials, manipulative and teacher specific items. Once the bags are completed we will schedule a day (days) for parents to pick them up (in front of the school, drive-by pick-up?). At this time, Claudia has already put together boxes of general materials (crayons, pencils, glue...) and have placed them in the front foyer for teachers to pick up.
I am asking a few things of you:
1. If you are coming into your classroom in the upcoming week, please pull out your math manipulatives listed on materials list (below) as well as white boards/markers and put them aside.
2. If, as a grade level, you decide to "add" items that students will need, please let me know so we can discuss the logistics together.
3. If any of you are willing to help with your grade level bags or the assembly of "supply kit bags," please let me know.
Thank you for your support.
