Second Grade
Dear Parents,
Thank you for sending in photos of the children's grandparents. They accompany the children's stories so well on our bulletin board! If you have not yet done so, please email your photo to us. We read a diverse collection of books about grandparents this week. Each student wrote about how one book reminded him or her about a particular grandparent. We read the following books:
- Tom by Tomie de Paola (an Irish grandfather likes joking around and telling stories to his grandson)
- Grandmother's Dreamcatcher by Becky Ray McCain (a Chippewa grandmother makes a dreamcatcher with her granddaughter)
- Grandfather's Journey by Allen Say (a Japanese man moves to America and then back to Japan but his grandson follows his grandfather's footsteps and immigrates to America)
- Mirandy and Brother Wind by Patricia McKissack (a young African-American girl in the south gets advice from her grandmother on how to get the best dancing partner for the cakewalk).
In math, we are starting to add double digit numbers. Please continue to practice basic addition and subtraction facts at home.
Questions to ask your child:
- Mrs. Kaufman's reading group: What is a "stowaway?"
- Mrs. King's reading group: Who is the "hero" in The Hero Two Doors Down?
- Ms. Holzer's group: Tell me two facts you learned about frogs.
- What is one thing you did as a class to earn marbles for the marble jar this week?
Hope to see you at the auction!
