Red Ribbon Week - NEXT WEEK!
Red Ribbon Week
October 22 - 26, 2018
The story of Red Ribbon Week began with a young man named Enrique Camarena, known as “Kiki” to his friends. Kiki dreamed of making a difference. When Kiki grew up, he became a policeman, and joined a group that fought against illegal drugs. While investigating a major drug cartel, Kiki was tragically killed. In honor of his memory and in honor of his work, Kiki’s friends and family began to wear red badges of satin. This turned into red ribbons; thus, Red Ribbon Week began.
During Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31, every teacher will teach some specific lessons about helping students make healthy, safe choices, including saying "No" to drugs. A group of BCSC teachers met this past summer to write these lessons. These lessons are being taught district-wide. With the growing opioid crisis, we play a part in the community's education and outreach. Ask your child throughout the week about the STAR decision-making model (Stop, Think, Act, and Report)!
During Red Ribbon Week, we’ll celebrate making choices for a healthy lifestyle. Join in with the following dress-up days.
Tuesday
Pajama Day - It’s important to get plenty of sleep. Kids need an average of 10 hours of sleep per night! Wear your school-appropriate pjs today.
Wednesday
Sports-gear Day - An active lifestyle helps our bodies and brains work better so we can grow and learn. Wear your favorite sports gear or team stuff today.
Thursday
Heroes make great choices. Dress up like your favorite hero today. Is that a superhero? Someone from the military? A teacher? Who do you look up to?
Friday
Let’s celebrate the end of a great week. Wear a hat or crazy hair day - your choice!
Teachers vs. Students Basketball Game - 10/25 @ 5 PM - more below!

BCSC TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION - SEAT BELTS
BCSC is fortunate to have many buses equipped with seat belts to ensure that students are safe while they ride. Students are taught at the beginning of the school year the procedure to operate the seat belt. Please know that if students choose to not wear their seat belt, or choose to remove it during transit, disciplinary action may result. Thank you in advance for discussing the importance of wearing a seat belt with your child, as our goal is to keep children safe while riding both to/from school and during field trips. Feel free to reach out to the transportation department with questions or concerns.
