Dance in Various Settings

by Cecilia Aureoles

Dance as a recreational activity

Recreational dance is any dance training of any genre that is not preparing you for a professional career. Basically, it's just taking dance classes under 15 hours a week for fun. Competition dance, graded dance and recital school dance programs are examples of recreational dance activities.

Dance in the educational setting

Educational dance is the transferring of dance performance skills and knowledge of dance to students through teaching and training, or acquiring such knowledge and skills through research. As we all know our school district provides for us the opportunity to receive dance as an elective in school. Many schools throughout the US don't have that opportunity.
