This is the 20th year for the annual Genesee County Literacy Conference presented by the GISD. This years conference will feature Kathy Bumgardner as the keynote speaker, over 20 breakout sessions and several local vendors.

Elementary School Science Leaders Meeting

The long term goal of this group will be to create a curriculum that addresses the Next Generation Science Standards in their entirety or provides you with supplemental material to add rigor and options to what you have in place already.


As this is a long term plan, this first meeting will focus on mapping the physical science standards in the K-2 setting and then create a pacing guide. Please bring a resource to share and be open to collaborate with your colleagues.

Add+Vantage Math Recovery Course 2 (AVMR 2)

Add+VantageMR (AVMR) Course 2 is a 4-day course that includes dynamic, diagnostic,individual assessments in place value, multi-digit addition & subtraction, multiplication & division strategies. The assessment, organizational and teach tools accelerate the educator's ability to recognize the students' current levels of numeracy understanding to make data-driven instructional decisions. AVMR Course 2 is most appropriate for Kindergarten through elementary classroom and special education teachers, as well interventionalists who work with children Kindergarten through middle school. Participants must have completed AVMR 1 course prior to attending this training.

Elementary Math Leaders Group

The Mathematics Leadership Team focus during the past three years was very strategic - a deep understanding of the Common Core, creating quality math units/lessons, and experiencing the research-based strategies for improving classroom instruction. We will continue this work into the upcoming school year. At each meeting, we focus on a different math domain/conceptual category from the Common Core.

Adding Coding to your Physics or Physical Science Class (ICSAM Introduction)

This free workshop is an introduction to ICSM. ICSAM (Integrating Coding in Science Across the Mitten) is a National Science Foundation initiative that aims to bring 21st century skills into the computational aspects of physics and physical science.


This one day workshop is an introduction of how to integrate coding into your physics or physical science classroom. It is important to note that you need no knowledge of coding to be a part of this. The team from Michigan State University will guide you through the process.


If you decide you would like additional training, Dr. Caballero and his team offer a more detailed workshop that runs over several days in the summer free of charged.

Chemistry Teacher Workshop

This meeting is for teachers who teach any aspect of chemistry. This includes physical science teachers who may have a semester that is an introduction to chemistry and STEM specialists. Biological Sciences Workshop

This meeting is for those who teach biology based classes. This includes honors biology, AP biology, anatomy and physiology, and forensics.
