For Your Information
Happy Thursday, Roosevelt Raccoons! Here's hoping that everyone is doing well, staying safe, and enjoying the gorgeous fall days.
~ Dismissal Time: This is going really, really well!! It's going so well we think we can change the dismissal time to 1:30. Starting on Monday, September 28, dismissal will begin at 1:30 pm rather than 1:25 pm. Thank you for your help in making both arrival and dismissal such a seamless process!
~ Mask Wearing is going really well! Students are wearing them, and responding to feedback really well if they forget, or if it falls down below their nose. Way to go, Raccoons! The bus company has asked us to remind bus riders that wearing a mask is a requirement on the bus, and that bus privileges can be lost for not wearing a mask during the entire bus ride. Also, cloth masks should be washed each day (if you need extra, see the message at the bottom--we have a mom willing to make you some!), and paper masks should only be used once and then thrown away.
~ Broadband Internet Options in Mankato: As you are all very well aware, the possibility of moving to Distance Learning is a very real thing. If your family does not currently have WIFI, here is a document that can help support you in your efforts to secure WIFI in the event of a move to Distance Learning. It might be helpful to think ahead and figure out some options, so that if you need it, your family is ready.
~ Free & Reduced Lunch paperwork: If you think you may qualify for free and reduced prices lunches, please fill out an application. If you currently qualify, these benefits will expire in October. I realize that all meals are currently free, BUT the funds could run out, and if you do not do this application, then you'll be charged for meals once the funding is gone. Additionally, Roosevelt qualifies for funding that comes to us based on the number of students who qualify for free/reduced meals, so it's really, really, really important to have accurate information. Please either fill out the application (Sarah will send one home if you need it) or you can go to the parent portal and apply online under "more" and then "meal benefits" The online application is not compatible with a smartphone. Please click here for a link to directions if you need help with Infinite Campus.
~ Register for Backpack Food Program: Please use this link to sign up for the Backpack Food Program. You fill out this short form (7 questions) and when you are finished, it will link you to the registration form. This year, a box of food for the month is delivered to your home. Our registrations are down quite a bit this year, so if you are in need of this (there are no specific income requirements to sign up), please fill out the above link. If you'd rather, you can call Sarah Heuer in the Roosevelt office (345-4285), and she can help with this process.
~ PTO Meeting: Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6 at 5:30 PM. It will be a virtual meeting, with the Zoom link coming in next week's newsletter. The PTO is on the hunt for a secretary...any interest? This would be a great way to support the amazing efforts of an amazing PTO.
~ School Pictures: Planning is in the works, and these are tentatively being planned for Friday, October 9. Stay tuned for more details....and not to worry distance learners, you'll be included!
~ At Home Reading: One of the things we expect each family to do is read 20-30 minutes at home each evening. Students can read to self, be read to by a family member, or even read a book digitally. IF your family does not have access to books, please contact your child's teacher, and we will work to coordinate books that can come home each week for your child to read. Those books can then be returned, and new books will be sent home.
~ Daily Home Screening Guidelines: Please complete the student screening each morning and report your child’s information to the school nurse if they have any of the following symptoms: MAPS COVID-19 Student Screening. If ANY household member is sick with COVID symptoms...the whole household needs to stay home. Please call the Health Office at 507-207-5704 if you have any questions about sending your student to school or not. I cannot emphasize the importance of this critical step!
Thanks for making it an awesome first week!! Have a great weekend!
