Trimester News - Summer 2022 Edition

Back To School Letter From The Principal

Dear Initial Point Students and Families,

We are so excited to start the school year. It is going to be a great year! We have been very busy around here this summer getting things ready for you in our new student information system, PowerSchool. Parents, if you have not completed your Back to School Registration, please do so HERE. We are asking that you have this done by next week.

When students start back there will be some new faces. We are asking our “Initial Point Veterans” to make them feel welcome, and to help them get comfortable at our school!

There have been a few questions about some of the changes we are going to make this school year. Below is a FAQ (frequently asked questions) list. Please read this closely so you and your students are not confused or surprised on the first few days of school.

  • What is the plan for the first few days of school?

    • Aug. 25th & 26th: The first two days of school. Please plan to attend Thursday AND Friday. Student schedules will be available the first day. We don't have a supply list, please have your student bring a few notebooks and writing utensils. Chromebooks will be available in each classroom.

  • Are we still only having school Monday through Thursday?

    • Yes and no. To clarify, Initial Point students will be attending school Monday through Thursday. However, students are REQUIRED to come to school the 3rd Friday of every month. Please see the calendar attached or reference what you picked up during registration.

    • We are on a Trimester schedule this year.

  • I heard something about an attendance policy?

    • Yes, we will be doing some things differently in regards to attendance this year. Students are allowed 8 absences total (including excused) before they have to appeal for credit for the class(es). For more information on how we mark attendance please see the attached sheet.

  • Our class schedule has changed from last year. Please see the updated bell schedule attached to this newsletter.

Again, I am looking forward to see all of our students. It is going to be a great year!

See you soon,

Jason Reddy

Resources:

The Community Resource Center is at Ross Elementary. If you are in need of food or resources it is available to support families in times of need. The food pantry is open Wed. 5-7pm or Thursday 9am-2pm.

Senior Parents:

I will be scheduling student/parent meetings for all seniors this fall to meet to discuss your students graduation plan and goals for after high school. Our priority is to keep our students on track for graduation and have a plan beyond high school.

Meet Our New Science Teacher!

My name is Jacob Hanson, and I will be the new Science Teacher for Initial Point High School this year. I graduated from Boise State University in 2021 majoring in Environmental Studies. This will be my first-year teaching. I am so excited to meet all of the students and show them what makes science such a fun subject!

A little about me, I like to read, watch movies, and garden in the summer. My favorite book is “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir, my favorite movies are the Star Trek series, and my favorite plant is the Roma tomato.

Meet Our New Social Studies Teacher!

Hi there! My name is Grant Labbe and I am an Idaho native. I was born and raised in Meridian and I am very excited to be out in Kuna at Initial Point High School. I attended Boise State University where I got my undergraduate degree in History and recently attended and graduated from Northwest Nazarene University where I received my Masters degree in the Arts of Teaching and my teaching endorsement.

In my free time outside of teaching I like to play Baseball, Softball, Frisbee Golf, Golf, Ski, Hike, and Fish. I have a family cabin in Montana and that is where I get to enjoy all the hiking and world class fishing. In the spring time the last two years I have coached JV Baseball at Meridian High School and I hope to do that again this year but at Kuna High School. I also love to Ski in the winter time mainly at Bogus Basin, however my favorite places to go skiing is in Jackson Hole and Big Sky Montana.
