Happy Retirement, Mrs. Lanza!
Staff Changes for Next Year
Mrs. Amy Kovarik, a current 3rd grade teacher, will be joining the EL team next year.
Mrs. Joanne Lang, a current bilingual/EL teacher, will be moving to Wheaton North High School to fill their need for a bilingual teacher.
Mr. Jason Dibbern, a current half-time resource teacher and half-time teaching assistant, will be moving to Pleasant Hill next year in the same position. Due to student numbers, Washington will need a full-time resource teacher. A full-time resource teacher is moving from another D200 school to join our team.
Mrs. Catherine Morgan, a teaching assistant working in 3rd grade, will be leaving us to teach in rural Japan with her husband.
Mrs. Lang, Mrs. Morgan, and Mr. Dibbern have become important parts of our Washington community in a relatively short time. We will miss them! We expect to have openings for an EL teacher and a 3rd grade teacher. I will share information about these new teachers and any other staff changes in the back-to-school Knightly News.
Health Office Changes for Next Year
Thanks for Field Day, PTA!
A huge thanks to PTA and all volunteers, especially the coordinators, Mrs. Anne-Marie Lemp and Mrs. Libby Hafkey. An extra thanks to Mrs. Lemp, whose family is moving on from Washington this year. She has coordinated field day for years, as well as Knights on the Run. Thank you for all the fun, Mrs. Lemp!

Thinking of Next Year
Dear Parents/Guardians:
As June approaches, I know that many of your thoughts are already turning toward next school year. Soon, I will begin working with the teachers on student placement for next year. Since students move in and out of our attendance area and staffing can change over the summer, the process will continue into August. We do our best to develop classes that provide the best opportunities for optimal teaching and learning. Due to the complex nature of developing class lists, it is impossible to accommodate requests for specific classroom teachers. The following quote is from the Parent/Student Handbook:
Many professional hours of planning and preparation are spent in the spring to ensure the most appropriate class placement for each child. To change even one student can upset the balance that was very carefully created by teachers and principals. Therefore, requests for a child's placement with a specific teacher are not invited.
We do value your input, and we invite you to share your thoughts and impressions about your child's needs. Feel free to email me at jennifer.craig@cusd200.org. It will be most helpful to receive any information you have to share by mid-May. Please understand that class placements will not be finalized and communicated to parents until sometime in August.
Thank you,
Jennifer Craig
Principal
