Williamson County is named after a man named Robert M. Williamson (also known as Three-legged Willie). He was a Texas patriot, lawyer, judge, and many other things. Although he was a native of Georgia he was a enthusiastic supporter of Texas statehood. His many contributions to the rebublic were recognized in 1848 when citizens of Miliam County petitioned for a new county, they named it in his honor.
