Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
October 14, 2018
We seemed to ease into this week... as we had Monday off, and the EdCamp teacher inservice on Tuesday. A HUGE thanks to Miss Gallagher for organizing and presenting during the inservice, as well as thanks to the rest of the presenters... Miss Hull, Mr. Wyckoff, Mr. Liggett, Mrs. Streelman, and Mr. T. Lalor. If you were like me, you came away with some great ideas on how to incorporate what they presented into your classroom/profession.
We also appreciated all of you as you proctored the Pre-ACT and PSAT assessments on Wednesday. As we continue to use these common assessments, the data will become more and more valuable as we analyze trends to improve instruction.
Thursday and Friday provided time to work with our students in order to prepare for this week's Quarter 1 exams and the week rounded out with a wonderful celebration of scholarship as the new members of NHS were inducted on Saturday evening.
Looking ahead...
This week will be time for collaboration, mentoring, review, assessment, and celebration! As Quarter 1 winds down, anxiety will heighten for our students. Thank you for continuing to ensure that all students have the resources and assistance they need to "show what they know" on the exams Thursday and Friday. Our student mentors will also be coming into the classrooms this week to provide underclassmen with some advice on how to make this time of year low-stress and highly effective!
The week will end with a chance to let off a little stress as our freshmen join our area 8th graders at the 8th grade/Freshmen Activity night on Saturday! Mrs. Loy will be communicating with staff members that have signed up to help that night to ensure that you know when to report and what to expect... but if the past years have been any indication, this night is bound to be a success!
Upcoming Q1 Exams
A reminder that some form of a study guide should be provided to all students a week prior to their exam. In addition, in order for students and their parents to be completely clear of where the student's grade stands, please make sure...
1) the grades are completely up to date in Rediker and all papers/feedback have been given back to students to utilize in preparation for exams, and
2) if you have any students who are standing on a D or F going into exams, you need to communicate with the parents through either a call or email.
Please review the 2018-19 Exam Procedures to ensure that you are aware of the procedures and expectations. Copies of all Quarter exams & study guides were to be submitted to your department head, Ms. Novy, and Chris Taylor (for Academic Resource students) by Thursday, October 11. If you have not yet submitted them, please do so asap. You can submit them electronically, provide a link, or provide a hard copy. Additionally, you may begin signing up for grade submission meetings here. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Ms. Novy.
Have a wonderful week!
