From Mr. Clemente

Dear Winter Park Band families,

It's Senior Week for the STOW marching band! This week we kick off the celebrations of the Class of 2022 with our Senior Night football game. This is a special night for the students and their families, and a great tradition for our underclassmen to look forward to in the coming years. Congratulations on all your work so far this year, and I am excited to see what you do for the remainder of the year!

Senior Parents: Please be sure you are keeping an eye on communication from Natalie Storch regarding all of this Friday's celebrations.

The Pit Orchestra for Damn Yankees opens the show this week with an evening performance on Thursday, a matinee and evening performance on Saturday, and a matinee on Sunday. The students in the pit have dedicated many, many hours of individual preparation and group rehearsal time to make this show a success and we are excited to be able to share it with everyone this week. If you'd like to come see the show, tickets can be purchased at https://teachtix.com/wphs/damn-yankees.

Lastly, we were notified this past week that due to issues with the stadium field at Cypress Creek HS, Marching Band MPA on Saturday, November 6 has been moved to University HS. Our performance time has also been adjusted as a result of the move, and the SOTW will now be performing at 3:20 PM. The itinerary has been adjusted on the Band website.

Let's make it a great week!

Mr. Clemente

Week of October 17, 2021

Senior night is October 22 (this Friday—a home game), and I sent an email to the senior parents-if you did not receive something from me, please email me at njstorch@yahoo.com, and I’ll send you more information. Stay tuned for arrival time (recognition will be before the game, but we do not yet know a time, but probably around 6-6:30 for those escorting seniors).

October 25 is a band booster board meeting, and we will have a general meeting for all parents/guardians/helpers sometime before our winter concert, so stay tuned for details on that!

October 26 (Tuesday), we will have Trunk-R-Treat, where parents can decorate vehicles/bring candy for the students to trunk or treat in D Lot after marching band rehearsal that day (that Thursday is a game, so we’ll need to do it on Tuesday). Past years have been very creative and fun!!

This week is the musical Damn Yankees. If you go to the musical (Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday), look for our fabulous band students in the pit. They have been working so hard, and I know it is going to be a great show. Tickets are available on

MPA prep help needed:

We are looking for 2-3 more volunteers to take home uniforms after the THURS game Oct 28th and bring them back for an Ironing Party on TUES Nov 2nd during practice (you are welcome to iron at home on your own schedule and just drop them off Tuesday).

We will be sending home around 10 uniforms to wash with instructions and detergent. All you need is a machine, water and a little time.

Please let me know if you can help the band look amazing for MPAs!

Amanda Schaefer- schaefer.momma@gmail.com

**A note to parents—this is a very satisfying way to help the band on your own schedule—the uniforms go in desperate need of cleaning and come out looking and smelling fantastic!!

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement

We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.

Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.

In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.

Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:

  • Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
  • Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
  • Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
  • Replace wheel bearings on front axle
  • Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
  • Replacing or repairing the small trailer
  • And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.

Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.

Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.

We will be also seeking volunteers to help at a Trailer Work- Days throughout the month of January. We will be repairing minor body damage, painting the trailer and removing the old logos. Please contact Keith Gavin @ kgavin@sscands.com if you can assist.

    PRIVATE LESSONS

Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.

Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!

By following the link below, you will find a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you know a private teacher who should be added (or would like to be deleted), please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
