Counseling Connection: November
DuPont Elementary School Counseling with Ms. Payne
Classroom Counseling Lessons: Respect & Diversity
This month in lessons, students will learn about what it means to be unique and how to be tolerant of differences in others. Respect is generally showing value and consideration to people, property, the environment, and yourself. Although we have discussed respect through our lessons on responsibility and anti-bullying, this month we'll go further and discuss things like appreciating our uniqueness and empathy.
Remember to sign up for a 30-minute lesson for November if you have not already!

Small Groups
The 3rd & 4th Grade Character Councils have started! Students on the council serve as leaders for the student body by modeling and teaching the importance of good character. Character Council members speak on the morning announcements, help create the character word/topic of the month bulletin board or display, and take part in a number of service projects including working with younger students and recycling. Right now, we are gearing up for World Kindness Day on November 13th!
Lunch bunches have started as well. Students are invited to come have lunch with me based on a common need or are created for the purpose of getting to know each other.
If you notice a number of students in your grade level with similar problems (family change, anger, death, lack of social skills), please let me know so I can organize and start a group! I will send out or meet with grade levels about a group needs assessment soon.
Minute Meetings
During the next few weeks, I will be pulling students with chronic absences/tardies and those with low academic performance during the first 9 weeks to have a brief conference/check-in. During our “minute meeting” we'll discuss a few questions and conjointly create a goal. In the last few weeks of December, I'll have the same conference with the same students to see if anything changed.
