Growing as Writers
Learning This Week
Reading- This week students will learn features of fiction, including identifying characters and setting. Students should recognize differences between fiction and nonfiction and be able to decide if a book is fiction or nonfiction by the end of first quarter.
Writing- As writers, we get ideas from our daily experiences and the books we read. Our goal this year is to easily generate ideas to write about from books and our experiences.
Math- Students will explore subtraction strategies. By the end of first grade, students should be able to fluently subtract within 1-10 and have strategies to subtract within 1-20.
Science- This week we will study apples. Students should be able to describe the life cycle of an apple tree and identify ways we use apples after harvest.
