Homework
Math: Khan Academy - conversions
Science: Stemscopes - renewable/non-renewable resources
Students can also "play" Prodigy and I told them that I would have a prize for the two students (one from each class) with the most points. I'm actually having fun looking for unusual prizes for the kids.

Math
This week we started learning about customary and metric conversion. The customary unit of measures include miles, feet, yards, pounds, ouncez, etc. is still used by only three countries: The United States, Myanmar, and Liberia. We do, however, use the metric system in science and medicine.
Science
The kids really enjoyed writing about and illustrating the process of oil or coal formation. After showing me their "sloppy copy", I gave them a blank 64 piece puzzle to use to create their final copy. They used their research (journal notes, reference material, Stemscopes, and Brainpop) along with discussions and even an edible model, to complete their project. Overall, I was very pleased with the results, and the kids loved working on this project. Once completed, they enjoyed taking their puzzle apart and found that putting it back together was not as easy as they thought.
Valentine's, I mean Friendship, Party
Once again, our fabulous volunteer moms did a great job making sure that the kids had a great time. Thank you, Mrs. Percival, you did a great job running the party (you are a brave woman). And thank you to Mrs. Martin, Carey, and Schaefer for all your hard work with the set up.
It was fun watching the kids having such a great time.
