PRINCIPAL NEWS
Thank you so much for participating in your child's Student Led Conference! The collaboration between students, families, and teachers is so important and YOU play a vital role!
This week also included a lot of emotion with our own district loss and the horrific loss in Uvalde, Texas. I am highly aware that these events lead to stress and anxiety, not only for our students, but for our families and our staff as well. Below are links to a website and a one-page document with tips on how to talk with children about violence. I hope you find them useful.
If you haven't already done so, please take a few minutes to complete the survey below. This is the same survey that was sent out last Sunday. Your input is invaluable as we continue to improve student safety in our schools.
PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS WITH THESE IMPORTANT DATES

KINDER/NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR
Registration for new kindergarten through grade 5 students who live within our school boundaries has opened. A child must be five years of age on or before August 31, 2022 to be eligible to enroll. Please prepare to register by obtaining medically verified immunization records, birth certificate, and a proof of residence (utility bill, lease/rental agreement, or mortgage papers). We register new students online at our district website ~ Franklin Pierce Schools. Please click here to start the process.
Current students who live within Brookdale Elementary boundaries are automatically enrolled at Brookdale Elementary for the 22/23 school year.
Any questions, please contact our school office at 253.298.3100.
CAN YOU HELP WITH FIELD DAY?
Brookdale’s Field Day is Friday, June 17. Brookdale students only will be participating in a variety of fun activities on our playground between 10:00-3:00. If your child needs to be excused early any time during Field Day you must send a note in the morning. Please include the name of the student, teacher name, reason for the early dismissal and what time your child will be picked up. We will not have the manpower to look for them without prior communication from the family. We still are looking for volunteers, please call the school office at 253-298-3100 if you are interested in helping us on that day.
FIFTH GRADE PROMOTION
Our Fifth Grade Promotion will be on Thursday, June 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Rainier View Church located at 12305 Spanaway Loop Rd S. Our fifth grade students will receive certificates and a reception will be held afterwards during which they will have time to sign memory books. Parents and families are welcome and encouraged to attend. As this is a very special ceremony, we ask that students dress in his or her best. Please help us make this occasion dignified and respectful.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR 5TH GRADE PROMOTION CEREMONY
We are looking for 4th and 5th grade parents to volunteer to help with the 5th grade promotion on Thursday, June 16 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. We would like 5th grade parents to be involved with planning this special day. It is a tradition at Brookdale that 4th grade parents help with set up/clean up so the 5th grade parents can spend time with their children. This will also allow the 4th grade parents to get some ideas for next year’s promotion ceremony. If you would like to volunteer to help, please call the office at 253-298-3100. Thank you!!
ARE YOU MOVING?
We are beginning our plans for next school year. During the next month, we will order instructional materials and supplies, put together classes and the various schedules that must be carefully coordinated in order for our school to run smoothly. To help us with this planning, please let us know if you are planning to move over the summer by calling the school office at 253.298.3100. Thank you!
RETURN LIBRARY BOOKS
The end of the school year is quickly approaching! It is time to look under beds, in closets, and other hiding places for those overdue and lost library books.
A NOTE FROM THE NURSE
HEWINS EARLY LEARNING CENTER
Free Developmental Screening for Children 3-5 years of age living in the Franklin Pierce School District.
The Franklin Pierce School District offers free developmental screening during the school year for children ages 3 to 5 who are not yet kindergarten age. The screenings address suspected developmental delays in preschool-aged children in communication, learning, physical development, social/emotional skills, and self-help skills. Vision and hearing screenings are also administered.
Screening information is used to determine if a child needs further evaluation. Preschool-aged students who have been evaluated as needing special education services and have a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) may be eligible for one of the district’s early childhood programs.
